Around The Farm: August 31, 2014
Rain may have suspended the major league club's hunt for the playoffs on Sunday Night Baseball, but the actual playoffs opened up for one team down in the minors. With the rest of the affiliates close to wrapping up their seasons, the Arizona League team kicked off their semifinal matchup Sunday. Playoff-bound RubberDucks lose to SeaWolves, 6-4
Erie’s Jason Krizan stroked a two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning Sunday, giving the SeaWolves the lead for good in a 6-4 win over the Akron RubberDucks at Canal Park. Krizan’s triple off Akron starter Shawn Morimando (2-6) landed just inside the first base bag and rolled to the right-field corner, chasing a pair of runners home and giving the SeaWolves a 5-4 lead. Krizan, 3-3, with two singles, two walks and two steals to go along with his triple, later scored on a single by Corey Jones to make it 6-4.

Despite loss, RubberDucks clinch playoff berth
The word starting spreading through the Akron dugout during the ninth inning of Saturday’s game against Erie at Canal Park, and the news was exactly what the players wanted to hear. The Altoona Curve had posted a 3-1, 10-inning victory over the Bowie Baysox, which clinched an Eastern League playoff spot for the RubberDucks.

SeaWolves leave Ducks feeling green in defeat
The Akron RubberDucks entered Friday’s series opener with a chance to clinch an Eastern League playoff spot with a win, but it was the Erie SeaWolves who played as if the playoffs were on the line by bashing Akron’s bullpen on the way to a 14-4 victory at Canal Park in front of a sold out crowd of 8,109.

Thursday night in the Cleveland organization was highlighted by the old and the new. At this point, Nellie Rodriguez putting up big numbers in Lake County has become old news, as the first baseman has spent most of 2014 doing just that. Casey Shane shutting down the New York-Penn League is new, however, as the 2013 sixth round pick was only recently called up from the Arizona League. Akron RubberDucks snap skid with 11-3 win against Trenton
The RubberDucks entered Thursday’s game against Trenton looking to avoid a four- game sweep, snap a six-game losing streak and zero in further on an EL playoff berth. After scoring 11 runs on 15 hits in an 11-3 victory over the Thunder at Canal Park, they managed to do all three.

The Akron RubberDucks turned a stunning triple play in Saturday night’s game against the Binghamton Mets. Unfortunately, that was the only highlight of the night during a forgettable, 5-1 loss to the Mets at NYSEG Stadium.

RubberDucks open weekend with loss at Binghamton
Binghamton second baseman Dilson Herrera is making the most of a mid-season promotion to Double-A.Herrera headlined a sizzling B-Mets offense by going 3-for-3, with a pair of doubles, a sacrifice fly and four RBI Friday night, as the Mets throttled the road-weary Akron RubberDucks, 12-3, in the opener of a three-game weekend series at NYSEG Stadium.
