Lake County Captains outlast West Michigan to win, 5-4
The Lake County Captains beat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 5-4, Monday behind nine hits and solid relief from Kenny Mathews. Starter Adam Plutko lasted five innings but gave up six hits and three runs while walking three and fanning four. Mathews provided three innings of no-run relief on just one hit. Anthony Santander led the offense by going 3 of 4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

Akron RubberDucks beat Binghamton, 4-0, behind strong pitching
The Akron RubberDucks defended their home diamond Monday by beating the Binghamton Mets. Will Roberts pitched six shutout innings while striking out seven. The Akron bullpen pitched three shutout innings with seven strikeouts, lead by Shawn Armstrong who tallied three strikeouts in his inning of work. Tony Wolters led the offense by going 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Tribe Happenings: How much longer on Carrasco?
The Indians were swept right out of San Francisco on Sunday and with that their short six-game West Coast trip is off to a rough start. They actually pitched well overall, but some key mistakes in the field and one or two bad pitches did them in. The IBI's Tony Lastoria chimes in with his weekly Happenings column on the Indians and talks about how much longer the Indians can afford to stick with Carlos Carrasco, who comes up to replace Yan Gomes when he leaves for the birth of his child, some concerns with Masterson and more.

Second Thoughts Game #25: Indians 1, Giants 4
There's no use sugarcoating it. The Indians headed west with a nice little hot streak under their belts winning four out of their last five games and three straight in a key division battle against Kansas City. A two-run second inning, followed by another third-inning run gave the Akron RubberDucks an early lead, which they hung on to defeat the Altoona Curve 6-4 on Sunday afternoon at Canal Park.

Mudcats pitching struggles in 10-3 loss to Keys
Despite holding an early lead, shaky pitching undid the Carolina Mudcats in a 10-3 loss to the Frederick Keys on Sunday afternoon. The loss marked the first time Carolina did not win in Frederick this season.

Captains top Silver Hawks 2-0 in 12, end 8-game skid
The Lake County Captains (6-17) broke the second eight-game losing streak of the season with a 2-0 win over the South Bend Silver Hawks (14-9) in 12 innings on Sunday afternoon. The Captains won their first extra inning game of the year.

Clippers blast 3 HRs to sink Tides 6-2
The Columbus Clippers (10-12) used three home runs to power past the Norfolk Tides (7-16) beating them 6-2, on Sunday afternoon at Harbor Park. Andy Ciriaco, Roberto Perez and Carlos Moncrief each homered, and drove in all six Clipper runs.

Second Thoughts Game #24: Indians 3, Giants 5
The Indians got off to a good start and Zach McAllister was crusing through four innings, and the Indians were up 3-0 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That is when things went haywire as the Giants plated four runs and took control of the game and eventually won 5-3. The IBI's John Grimm chimes in with his Second Thoughts on the game....

Carolina Mudcats top Manny Machado and the Keys, 4-2
The Carolina Mudcats beat the Frederick Keys, 4-2, Saturday even though they finished 0-13 with runners in scoring position. Baltimore Orioles star third baseman Manny Machado finished 1-4 for the Keys on rehab assignment as Carolina found its way to victory. Shawn Morimando pitched 6.2 stellar innings to lead the Mudcats.

Lake County Catains extend losing streak, fall 6-4 to South Bend
The Lake County Captains lost their eighth straight game by a score of 6-4 against the South Bend Silver Hawks. Dace Kime got the start, but lasted less than five innings as his ERA moved up to 9.95 for the season. The Captains made a comeback attempt, but it wasn't enough to catch South Bend on the road.

Columbus Clippers fall to Norfolk Tides in 11 innings, 3-2
The Columbus Clippers stretched the game to 11 innings, but eventually fell to the Norfolk Tides, 3-2, Saturday night. The loss brought Columbus to three games under .500 after the team gave up the deciding run in the second inning of extra play. Travis Banwart's shutout play through 5.2 innings of work went to waste, but the overall pitching performance was a bright spot for the Clippers.
