Launching off with the Aeros: 7/2/13 – 7/8/13
The Akron Aeros got back to winning after a bit of a dry spell, taking five-of-seven games on a road trip to Bowie and Richmond. The winning pushes the Aeros to 44-46 on the year, 5.5 games behind the first-place Harrisburg Senators. The amazing hitting of Jose Ramirez, the power of Jake Lowery, and a plethora of strong pitching carried the Aeros. To find out all you need to know about the week for Akron, join Jim Piascik and go Launching off with the Aeros.

Second Thoughts Game #89: Tigers 4, Indians 2
After dropping the first two games of this series to the Tigers in hopeless fashion, the Indians still had a chance to split the four-game wraparound on Monday. The offense managed just two runs, but were well within position to win it throughout, thanks to mostly quality pitching. Down the stretch, it was a series of questionable coaching decisions that helped lead to a brutal loss. The IBI's Kevin Dean shares his "second thoughts" on the tough loss for the Tribe.

AZL Padres clobber lackluster AZL Tribe, 11-3
The AZL Indians were flat from the first pitch to the last Monday night, as the visiting AZL Padres took a dominating 11-3 victory. It could have been the 100+ degree heat or the fact that they have played six games in as many days, but the usually energetic and loose AZL Indians were shells of their normal selves. They were out hit 18 to four on the evening and never managed to muster up any sort of fight.

Indians fall to Detroit late 4-2, lose four-game series
You could say it was the Indians offense rather than the rain that fell harder at Progressive Field on Monday. Entering the ballgame 5-0 in extra innings, the Tribe fell 4-2 in 10 innings to Detroit, losing the series three games to four. The Indians were unable to capitalize on several opportunities o score, and the Tigers ultimately got the big hit in extra innings.

Tejeda is a bullpen arm with some promise
The minor leagues may be considered a place for adjustments and learning from mistakes but so far, Enosil Tejeda has mostly seen success. Tejeda, a 24-year-old right-hander from the Dominican Republic, has been one of the double-A Akron Aeros’ most reliable bullpen arms since his promotion from high-A Carolina in May. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger talked with him recently and provides the details in her latest.

Notes from the Wigwam: Tribe loses ground
The Cleveland Indians went through a rough patch this past week as the team lost its series against the Kansas City Royals and also dropped the first two games of a four-game series against the Tigers. The bullpen struggled mightily and played a big role in the Indians losses, and there now seem to be some major pitching questions moving forward. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he looks back at the week that was in the weekly IBI staple, Notes from the Wigwam.

Second Thoughts Game #88: Indians 9, Tigers 6
Sunday marked the five-year anniversary of the CC Sabathia trade to the Milwaukee Brewers back on July 7, 2008. Flash forward five years later, left fielder Michael Brantley (the player to be named later in that deal) had his best day as a member of the Indians against Detroit on Sunday. Slugging two home runs and picking up a career-high five RBI, Cleveland snapped its four game losing streak, as they edged the Tigers 9-6 at Progressive Field.

If you take away the third, fourth and fifth innings, the Indians pitching staff threw great in Sunday’s game; however, three awful relief innings by AZL Indians relief pitcher Anthony Vizcaya spelled “doom” for the Tribe, as they got pummeled by the AZL Rangers 8-2.
