On-Deck with the Captains: 7/26/12 - 8/1/12
The Captains are currently riding a five game winning streak where the pitching and hitting are clicking on all four cylinders, and they may be poised to make a run in the playoffs in the second half. Lianna Holub chimes in with her weekly notebook "On-Deck with the Captains"...

Baker Impresses but Tribe Defense Stumbles in Loss
Dylan Baker proved why he was one of the most highly regarded JUCO prospect in the 2012 draft on Wednesday night. The Alaska native threw 3.1 innings on the evening, struck out six—including striking out the side in the 2nd inning—and was absolutely owning the Cubs offense with a fastball

How I Met Your Aeros: Preston Guilmet
In the 9th inning of a tight game at Canal Park, you very well might get to see Preston Guilmet and his unorthodox pitching style. Guilmet uses his unique straight over the top style to confuse hitters and it has worked very well this year. Jim Piascik talked with Guilmet recently about his pitching style, his approach, and whether he feels the pressure of being the closer.

Minor Happenings: Fedroff fights for big league opportunity
In this week's second edition of Minor Happenings, Tony takes a long, hard look at the Triple-A Columbus roster. He takes a look at the hot hitting Tim Fedroff, Ezequiel Carrera and Jared Goedert and provides insight and analysis on whether they are big league options for the Indians anytime soon, provides several interesting comments from Ross Atkins on how they handle players that are affected by trades as well as some thoughts on Vinny Rottino and J.C. Romero, and more.

Second Thoughts: Game #104 - Indians 2, Royals 5
Well, that just might do it. The Indians lost for the fifth time in a row last night on their current road trip 5-2 to the Royals, losses to teams they should be beating if they want to stay in the playoff race. They are now seven games out of first place and the season is quickly transitioning from contention to evaluation for next season. Adam McGavin gives his second thoughts on another tough loss last night...

Scrappers fend of Lake Monsters, 6-1
The Scrappers got back on the winning end after losing two straight, outpacing the Vermont Lake Monsters 6-1 on Wednesday night. The Vermont pitchers were certainly a welcome sight for Scrapper hitters after facing the stingy Brooklyn staff.

Rayl dominates Pelicans
The Carolina Mudcats shutout the Myrtle Beach Pelicans behind an oustanding pitching performance from starter Mike Rayl 5-0 on Wednesday night. After a 29 minute rain delay, Rayl came out and was dominant, as he did not give up a hit until there was one out in the fifth. He wound up going seven scoreless innings, surrendering four hits and striking out two.

Lake County beats West Michigan in a 7-2 romp
The Lake County Captains strung together sixteen hits on Wednesday to post a 7-2 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps and extend a five-game winning streak. Left-hander Elvis Araujo took the mound for the Captains against West Michigan righty Marcelo Carreno. Araujo had a tough month of July as he posted a 2-3 record and 6.95 ERA, and he struggled on Wednesday as he had trouble finding the plate.

Around the Farm: August 1, 2012
Jose Ramirez had a perfect night at the plate, and Francisco Lindor had another three-hit ball game. Mike Rayl showcased a solid outing, and Jacob Lee looked solid in another outing. Tonight's top of the heat belongs to another starter that seems to find his way here on occasion, even though he's not even close to the top talent with regards to starters. Tonight, there was no one better. Find out who, after the jump...

Fishing with the Mudcats: Suspension of Disbelief
The Mudcats couldn't hit this week, and they really couldn't pitch much. Put that all together, and your week isn't going to go very well. The Mudcats quest for the second half took a bit of a snag after a struggling week that saw a long losing streak, which coincided with a suspension by two of the Mudcats best players. Check out the week as we go Fishing with the Mudcats...

Minor Happenings: So long Mr. Wright, Hello Mr. Anderson
With the trade deadline now in the past and my vacation but a distant memory, it is time to get back into the swing of things with Minor Happenings as we head down the home stretch of the minor league season. Today, Tony provides updates on the departing Steven Wright and incoming Lars Anderson, the recent impressive performances from lefties T.J. House and Danny Jimenez, all sorts of goodies from Farm Director Ross Atkins on some pitchers in the system, an update on the health of Jeremie Tice, and more.

Starting pitching rundown
A lot of the focus on improving the Indians current roster has focused on offensive upgrades, specifically regarding left field and the corner infield positions. However, the Tribe’s starting rotation is as much or more of a concern, and that concern has more than shown itself during the Indians current road trip through Minnesota and Kansas City. Adam McGavin runs through the starting pitching performances to date and looks at what options - if any - the Indians have to fill the holes internally.

Second Thoughts: Game #103 - Indians 3, Royals 8
What an awful day for the Indians on Tuesday. First they stand pat and do very little to improve the team at the trade deadline, and then their team put up another poor showing on the field with Derek Lowe maybe putting the final nail in his coffin for his career and the offense continued to sputter. It all added up to an 8-3 loss to the Royals. New IPI writer William Biggar gives his second thoughts on the game...
