In this MLB News and Notes segment, I will be giving occasional reports on the latest news and rumors throughout the MLB. I also will try to tweet news and rumors as I see them, so feel free to follow me on Twitter: @AndrewIBI.

Here are the stories from Thursday, April 10th.

Tribe News:

  • Third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall was placed on the paternity list. Justin Sellers was called up to take Chisenhall's place on the roster. Paul Hoynes reported that Chisenhall will likely rejoin the team on Sunday.

  • Terry Francona said outfielder Michael Bourn is unlikely to join the team until Tuesday at the earliest for the Indians' series at Detroit. Bourn is eligible to come off the disabled list Sunday.

  • According to Elias Sports Bureau, Danny Salazar became the first pitcher in the modern era to strike out 10 in less than 4 innings of work.

News and Notes:

  • The Rangers have re-signed catcher Chris Gimenez to a minor league deal. Gimenez had become a free agent after declining an outright assignment from the club just days ago, but ultimately elected to return.

  • The White Sox announced that young outfielder Avisail Garcia will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn left shoulder labrum.

  • Pirates reliever Vin Mazzaro has accepted an outright assignment from the team to Triple-A, according to Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune. Pittsburgh expected to lose the 27-year-old righty, but ultimately did not. He was an effective piece for them last year.

  • In an article by Brian MacPherson of the Providence Journal, he mentioned that the changing rules and increasing number of extensions in the game are serving as a detriment to the Yankees. He added that tighter rules regarding performance enhancing drugs are preventing players from performing well into their 30s, and many would-be free agents are locked up through their decline years and therefore unavailable to the Yanks in free agency.

  • The White Sox acquired outfielder Gorkys Hernandez from the Royals and assigned him to their Triple-A affiliate, the Charlotte Knights. Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reported that the White Sox will send cash considerations to the Royals to complete the deal.

I guess the Yankees need to use a tool they have ignored most of the time is build part of year team through your own farm system.

Bourn is a player on the decline, his legs are gone , his basestealing days are over thus relinquishing him to a 4th outfielder. Reminds me of Marquis Grissom whom like Bourn was also big time base stealer in the NL

Not only do I not feel sorry for the Yankees but I say anything that levels the playing field is good for the game.
