WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY- The Mahoning Valley Scrappers came into Friday night’s game scuffling, having lost seven-straight. Despite a better overall performance, the Scrappers were unable to avoid dropping their eighth-straight game, 6-4, to the Hudson Valley Renegades. With the loss, the Scrappers have also now been swept in three-straight series.

The game started ugly for Mahoning Valley in the first inning. A leadoff walk from Sean Brady allowed Braxton Lee to reach base. Coty Blanchard followed with a single. Jace Conrad then tripled to drive in Lee and Blanchard for a 2-0 lead. Casey Gillaspie would follow by reaching on a fielding error that allowed Conrad to score for a 3-0 Hudson Valley lead. A two out single from Zach Marberry would bring in Gillaspie for a 4-0 deficit.

The Scrappers would answer back in the top of the fourth inning. With one out, Bradley Zimmer walked. Francisco Mejia then doubled home Zimmer with the first Scrappers run of the game. Mejia would also score when with two outs, Leo Castillo would double to cut the Scrappers deficit to 4-2.

Mahoning Valley would make it a one run game in the top of the seventh inning. D’Vone McClure and Yonathan Mendoza both singled to start the inning. Greg Allen would single with one out to score McClure from second base and cut the Renegades’ lead to 4-3.

Hudson Valley was able to add two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. After a wild pitch on a strikeout allowed Blanchard to reach to start the inning, Conrad would single. With one out the Scrappers would intentionally walk Hunter Lockwood to load the bases. Daniel Miles followed with a single to score both Blanchard and Conrad.

Mahoning Valley would get the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning. After McClure reached on an error with one out, Mendoza would single to drive him in for a 6-4 score. However the Scrappers would get no closer.

Brady (1-1) started for the Scrappers. He went five innings and allowed six hits. He gave up four runs, two earned, while walking two and striking out four. Luis DeJesus would follow in relief and delivered two innings of perfect relief. DeJesus struck out two. Dominic DeMasi then worked the final inning in relief. DeMasi allowed two runs, both earned, on two hits. He walked one and struck out one.

The Scrappers will now head to Lowell, Massachusetts to take on the Lowell Spinners on Saturday. Game time is set for 5:05 PM. If you can’t be at Eastwood Field or on the road, catch all the Scrappers games this season with Tim Pozsgai on Sports Radio 1240 AM.
