State College, PA- Coming off a five win home stand, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers looked to keep the momentum rolling in State College on Tuesday night. Playing the division leading Spikes, the Scrappers turned in one of their best performances of the season for a 3-1 win to extend their winning streak to five.

The Spikes jumped out in front early with a run in the bottom of the 3rd inning. After Darren Seferina walked to start the inning, he moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. A wild pitch moved him to third before an RBI single from Jake Stone with two outs would score him.

Mahoning Valley wasted little time in answering back. In the top of the 4th inning, Bradley Zimmer and Francisco Mejia would each single to start the inning. After a double steal attempt erased Mejia, Leo Castillo delivered an RBI single to tie the game at 1. Castillo would then move to second on a wild pitch. A ground out moved him to third. Another wild pitch would allow Castillo to score as the Scrappers would take a 2-1 lead.

The Scrappers added an insurance run in the top of the 7th inning. Martin Cervenka walked to start the inning. A wild pitch would move him to second. Then with two outs, an RBI single from Greg Allen, would push the score out to 3-1.

From there the Scrappers bullpen would slam the door the rest of the way.

Cameron Hill started for the Scrappers and worked 4 innings. He allowed 1 run on 5 hits. Hill walked 3 and did not record a strike out. Edward Estrella (2-0) came out of the bullpen to work 2 innings. He allowed just 1 hit while walking 2 to earn the win. Luis Gomez then gave the Scrappers 2 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just 1 hit and struck out 2 while walking 1. JP Feyereisen slammed the door shut with a perfect 9th inning. He struck out 1 to pick up his first career save.

The Scrappers would move to within 4 games of the wild card lead with a Staten Island loss on Tuesday. They were losing 10-4 as of this writing.

The Scrappers and Spikes will conclude their two game series on Wednesday night at 7:05. If you can’t be at Eastwood Field or on the road, catch all the Scrappers games this season with Tim Pozsgai on Sports Radio 1240 AM.
