Late Homerun Burns Captains 3-2

(Dayton, OH) – Jesse Winker hit his 16th homerun of the season in the bottom of the eighth inning and the Dayton Dragons (25-21) defeated the Captains (21-24) by a final of 3-2. The first two hitters of the inning reached base and then jogged home on the three-run shot. The Dragons won just their fourth game of the season against the Captains.
Lake County scored first in the bottom of the third inning. Jorge Martinez who won the ballgame on Tuesday with a homerun, smacked number five on the season over the right field wall and the Captains led 1-0. Lake County got another run in the top of the eighth inning when LeVon Washington scored on wild pitch. The Captains led 2-0 heading to the bottom of the eighth.
RHP Robbie Aviles (3-3) started the game for Lake County and did not get a decision. Aviles pitched five innings and allowed three hits, one walk and two strikeouts.D.J. Brown (1-4) pitched three innings, allowed four hits, three runs, two earned runs, two walks and two strikeouts. Brown took the loss after allowing the homerun to Winker.
Dayton sent RHP Sal Romano (6-8) to the mound to start the game. Romano did not get a decision. He pitched six innings, and allowed seven hits, one earned run, one walk and three strikeouts. He allowed the homer to Martinez. The Dragon Bullpen pitched three innings, two hits, one earned run, one walk, and three strikeouts. The win went to Able De Los Santos (1-0), the save went to Alejandro Chacin (4).
The Captains will be back in action on Thursday Night in Dayton, OH to take on the Dayton Dragons in the second game of a three game set. The Captains will start RHP Felix Sterling (3-4, 5.00) and Dayton will counter with LHP Ismael Guillon (4-7, 5.95) First Pitch is at 7:00 PM from Fifth Third Field.
