SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Lake County Captains (25-42) sent thirteen men to the plate to score a season-high nine runs in the fourth inning and defeated the South Bend Silver Hawks (39-27), 13-6, on Thursday night.

Lake County salvaged one game of the three-game set.

The Captains struck first to jump to a 2-0 lead before South Bend came to bat. Designated hitter Clint Frazier and third baseman Paul Hendrix reached on one-out singles before scoring on left fielderTorsten Boss’ two-run single.

The Silver Hawks took the lead with a four-run second inning. Third baseman George Roberts led off with a double and he scored on a RBI double by designated hitter Stryker Trahan. Trahan moved to third on a fly ball and crossed the plate on a triple by catcher Michael Perez. Right fielder Zach Esquerra and shortstop Andrew Velazquez added RBI singles to give the home team the two-run lead.

Lake County tied the game at four in the third inning. Centerfielder Logan Vick tripled to center field and scored on a RBI single by Frazier. A wild pitch by South Bend starter John Omahen moved Frazier to second and a groundball advanced him to third. Catcher Eric Haase lifted a fly ball to foul territory, deep enough for Frazier to tag and score.

The Captains scored their nine runs in the fourth inning to the tune of eight hits, one walk and a hit batter. Vick walked in a run with the bases loaded before Omahen left the game. Tom Jameson entered and gave up a bases-clearing triple to Frazier – his third hit of the game. Jameson kept the Captains off the board following the fourth as he retired the next six batters. He was charged with five runs allowed on six hits in three innings. John Shuttlesworth came in and allowed one hit in the final three innings of the game.

South Bend drew two runs closer in the seventh against Paredes. Following a single, fielder’s choice, error and ground out, first baseman Daniel Palka drilled a two-run homer to right field.
