Lake County Captains outlast Great Lakes, 6-5
(Midland, MI) – Grant Fink singled home Nellie Rodriguez in the top of the tenth inning and the Captains beat the Great Lakes Loons 6-5 on Thursday Night. The Captains are now 10-7 in extra innings and the Loons fall to 7-13 in extras. The Captains have won eight straight series.
Great Lakes scored a run on the bottom of the first inning. The Loons used three hits in the frame, the RBI went to Joey Curlettahis 66th of the season after his single to left field. The score after one inning was 1-0 Great Lakes.
The Loons scored two more in the bottom of the second inning.Devan Ahart hit a sacrifice fly and then Leo Rodriguez singled home a run and the score was 3-0 Great Lakes. Lake County got on the board in the top of the third inning on a passed ball the score was 3-1.
Great Lakes tacked on a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. The loons used three hits, including two doubles. The RBI went to Leo Rodriguez his second of the season. The score was 4-1 Loons.
Lake County scored four times in the top of the sixth inning. With one on, Nellie Rodriguez connected for his 21st homer of the season and the score was 4-3. Dorssys Paulino doubled and was doubled home by Brian Ruizand the score was tied at 4-4. Ruiz then scored on an RBI two-bagger from Claudio Bautista and the Captains led 5-4.
Great Lakes scored a run in the ninth inning to tie the game. With two outs, Leo Rodriguez singled on the infield.Faustino Oguisten then pinch-ran at first base. Ougisten stole second and moved to third on a passed ball. Joey Curletta singled the run home and the game was tied at 5-5.
RHP Jordan Milbrath (3-12) started the game for the Captains. Milbrath pitched five innings and allowed eight hits, four earned runs, one walk and five strikeouts. Milbrath hit one batter and did not get a decision. Caleb Hamrickpitched three innings of relief for the Captains and did not allow a run. Hamrick allowed two hits and struck out one.Carlos Melo (3-1) pitched the ninth for the Captains and allowed one unearned run to score on two hits and got the win. Wander Beras pitched a 1-2-3 tenth inning to earn his second save of the season.
LHP Luis DePaula (1-2) got the start for the Loons and did not get a decision. DePaula pitched five innings and allowed one unearned run on four hits, he walked one and struck out six. The Loons used four pitchers in relief. The loss went to Jacob Rhame (5-4) he allowed one earned run on two hits in the tenth inning.
The Captains and Loons play the finale of the three game series on Friday at 7:05 PM with the Captains sending LHP Anderson Polanco (3-0, 2.22) to the mound against RHP Jose DeLeon (2-0, 1.59). First pitch from Dow Diamond is at 7:05 PM.
