The Cleveland Indians today announced they have selected the contract of outfielder Tyler Holt from the Triple-A Columbus Clippers and placed outfielder Michael Bourn (left hamstring strain) on the 15-day Disabled List.

Holt, 25, has split the 2014 season between Double-A Akron and Columbus, hitting .302 (42-139) with 38 runs scored, 9 doubles, 2 HR & 12 RBI with the Clippers. Over his last nine games with Columbus since June 26 he has hit at a .389 (14-36) clip with 12 runs, 2 2B, 1HR & 3RBI. Prior to his May 26 promotion to Columbus the Gainesville, FL native hit .298 (37-124) with Akron with 4 2B, 1 3B, 14RBI and 13 runs scored in 39 games.

Combined between the two stops he hit .346 (27-78) off LHP, swiped 21 bases in 24 attempts (88%) and appeared at all three outfield positions (17 LF, 41 CF, 10 RF). Tyler was Cleveland’s 10th round selection in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Florida State University.

Bourn was injured running the bases on Saturday night in the 8th inning. This marks his fourth career stint on the Major League DL, previously missing the first 13 games of the 2014 season with a left hamstring strain. He is currently third on the team in runs scored (37) and is hitting .267 (76-285) with 9 2B, 7 3B, 3HR & 21 RBI in 66 games.

The Indians roster is now at 40 players. Since the roster was at 39 players before the move, the Indians were not required to make room to add Holt who was previously unrostered.

Bourn has been doing ok considering. But as I pointed out before, at his age with a grade 3 or more tear- you never completely heal- the scar tissue is not as resilient as the the original tissue. These things tend to be chronic. Since speed is the predominant characteristic of his game, I would say his career is winding down. Too bad, Brian Sabean was interested in making him a Giant - they are now officially desperate to replace Angel Pagan who is now gone for the season in CF. Could have been a good move for all concerned. There are not alot of dependable CF's/ leadoff hitters available, Bourn is one of a only few. Will be interesting to see Holt. You never know when you might find lighting in a bottle.

Glad to see Tyler Holt get a shot, even if it's for a short period. Hate seeing Bourn go down again, he's been having a decent yr. Seems like this leg injury is really plaguing him, interested to see how serve it is, go staight to the DL is telling.
