Indians option Bauer to Columbus, recall Langwell
Between Games 1 and 2 of Friday's traditional doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox, the Indians announced that the club has recalled right-handed reliever Matt Langwell from Triple-A Columbus and will be in uniform for Game 2. To make room on Cleveland's 25-man roster, the Indians optioned right-handed pitcher Trevor Bauer to Columbus.
Langwell, 27, will begin his second stint of the season with the Tribe, as he made his Major League debut with 4 relief appearances from June 1-17 and posted no record with a 2.08 ERA (4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 R-ER, 1 HR, 1 BB, 5 SO). He began the year with the Clippers and has gone 3-2 with a 3.00 ERA (33.0 IP, 32 H, 11 R-ER, 1 HR, 14 BB, 27 SO) and one save in 24 games/one start. He last appearance came on Tuesday at Norfolk with 1.0 inning of relief.
Bauer, 22, was recalled from Columbus in time to start Game 1 against the White Sox. He did not factor into the decision of that 19-10 win after facing 10 batters in the first inning prior to his exit (0.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R-ER, 1 BB, 2 HR, 1 HP, 49 pitches/27 strikes).
