BURLINGTON, VT - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers felt the effects of three long close games in Tri-City on Saturday night. The Scrappers came out flat and allowed 3 runs, only 2 earned in the 2nd inning on their way to a 3-2 loss to the Vermont Lake Monsters.  

Sean Brady came in to the game with the New York Penn League’s 4th best ERA at 2.17 and a 2-1 record. After allowing a single and a walk, he got out of the 1st inning without allowing a run. In the 2nd inning Brady walked the first batter, Max Kuhn. After getting Trent Gilbert to fly out to left field, Brady would allow the Vermont Lake Monsters to get on the scoreboard first.

Gabriel Santana would connect on his first homerun of the season for a 2-0 lead. Jose Chavez would then reached on a throwing error by Scrappers second basemen Steven Patterson. The error would allow Chavez to move to second. He would then score on an RBI double from Ben McQuown for a 3-0 lead.  

The Scrappers only runs would come in the top of the 4th inning. Patterson started the inning with his team leading 15th double of the season. The double also moves him into a tie for 2nd in the NYPL for doubles. Patterson would score with oneout when Francisco Mejia would also double. Mejia also came into to score when with two outs; D’Vone McClure would get the Scrappers third double of the inning.  

Mahoning Valley would then strand the tying run on base in three of the next five innings.  

Brady (2-2) ended up going 4.1 innings. He allowed 3 runs, only 2 earned, on 5 hits. He walked 3 and struck out 5. Edward Estrella would go the rest of the way in relief pitching the final 3.2 innings. Estrella did not allow a run and gave up just 2 hits. He walked 2 and struck out 2.
