K-Tribe Wins In A Rout

The Kinston Indians scored double-digit runs for the second straight night, winning 12-1, in another blowout of the Salem Avalanche Friday at Historic Grainger Stadium. The Indians pounded out 13 hits in the win.

The K-Tribe jumped all over Salem starter Douglas Arguello in the bottom of the first, sending ten men to the plate and scoring four runs in the opening frame on two hits. Arguello, walked four batters in the first inning and also had two wild pitches. Arguello failed to get out of the second inning, facing four batters and not getting an out. Kinston scored four more runs in the second inning, batting around to take an 8-0 lead. Arguello failed to get out of the second inning.

Kinston infielder Carlos Rivero was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBIs for Kinston. Niuman Romero was 2-for-5 with two RBIs, Cirilo Cumberbatch also had two hits.

Kinston starter Carlton Smith threw a gem with five shutout innings and five strikeouts. He did not allow a hit until the fourth innings, allowing just two singles and four overall baserunners. The only blemish for the K-Tribe was a solo homer by Salem's Tim Torres off of Sung-Wei Tseng. Neil Wagner, Matt Meyer, and Vinnie Pestano all turned in scoreless innings from the K-Tribe bullpen.

Kinston takes on Salem for game three of the four game series Saturday night at Historic Grainger Stadium. The 7pm start features free rally towels to the first 1,000 fans. Kinston's Shawn Nottingham will toe the rubber for the Indians.
