Akron RubberDucks fall to Erie SeaWolves, 10-3
(Erie, PA) May 7, 2014 – The Erie SeaWolves scored eight times in the third inning Wednesday afternoon, and cruised to a 10-3 victory over the Akron RubberDucks at Jerry Uht Park.
The loss snapped Akron’s 10-game winning streak, and salvaged a win in the series for the SeaWolves (13-17). The RubberDucks finished the road trip at 6-1, and now head back home for a seven-game homestand against Altoona and Harrisburg beginning Thursday night at 6:35.
Despite the loss, the RubberDucks (20-12) maintained a 2 1⁄2-game lead in the EL West over Richmond, who lost at Harrisburg.
The SeaWolves rallied against Akron starter Cody Anderson (2-3) by scoring twice in the first inning. They followed that by sending 12 batters to the plate in the third inning and scoring eight times to assume a 10-1 lead. The outburst was highlighted by a grand slam by Erie’s Stephen Moya.
The RubberDucks had opportunities, but couldn’t find a key hit against Erie starter Wilsen Paalcios (2-1) or relieversKenny Faulk and Jose Valdez. Akron left 13 runners on base, and went 1-19 with runners in scoring position.
The RubberDucks will welcome in the Altoona Curve for the start of a four-game series at Canal Park on Thursday evening at 6:35. RHP Gabriel Arias (3-2, 3.75) will get the start for Akron, while RHP Adrian Sampson (3-2, 1.53) is the announced starter for Altoona. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM in the Akron area, and also via www.AkronRubberDucks.com.
