The Carolina Mudcats (19-18) squeezed out a 2-1 win against the Myrtle Beach Pelicans (22-15) to open up a three game series. The Mudcats got two, two out hits in the bottom of the first to drive in their only runs of the game. That would be all the offense the Mudcats would need as the pitching was fantastic on the night.
The Lake County Captains (20-17, 51-55) scored the winning run late in the seventh inning in a 3-2 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps (18-19, 54-53). Lake County won their fourth straight game in the process.
After eight innings of lackluster offense and inconsistent pitching, the Columbus Clippers (59-53) put together a monster ninth-inning rally to tie the game but ultimately fell to the Rochester Red Wings (55-56) in 12 innings by a final score of 10-8.
Three Portland pitchers combined to throw a seven-hit shutout Tuesday, as the Sea Dogs squeezed by the Akron Aeros, 1-0, in the opener of a three-game series at Hadlock Field. The game’s deciding run for Portland came in the sixth off Aeros southpaw Giovanni Soto.
