Clippers come through with a 5-3 win
he fireworks display began early for the 10,529 in attendance at Huntington Park on Friday night as the Columbus Clippers (47-41) and the Toledo Mud Hens (43-46) put seven of the games eight runs on the board in the bottom of the first and the top of the second innings. The Clippers used a four-run first to grab the early lead, one that they would not relinquish in a 5-3 victory that snapped a two-game losing streak.

The name of the game is patience. No wait, that was last night's theme. Anyway, Kieran Lovegrove rewarded anyone who has been patient with him Thursday night, tossing five no-hit innings and showing flashes of why he was a highly regarded third round pick in 2012. He was joined by Claudio Bautista, who will also need some patience in the future as he learns to be more selective at the plate. Scrappers Win First Series of the Year With 4-2 Win in Auburn
It took until the third week of the season, but the Mahoning Valley Scrappers picked up their first series win and first back to back wins of the season on Thursday night in Auburn with a 4-2 win. Kieran Lovegrove (1-0), making his 4th start of the season, set the tone for the Scrappers. Lovegrove breezed through 5 hitless innings in his best start of the year. He did not allow a run and walked 2 while striking out 5.

Carolina Mudcats top Lynchburg Hillcats, 10-4, behind 13 hits
he Carolina Mudcats demolished the Lynchburg Hillcats, 10-4, Thursday to complete a three-game series sweep. The Mudcats offense exploded for five runs in the fifth and four in the sixth as Carolina brought out the broom in impressive fashion after falling behind early.

Lake County Captains lose to Bowling Green, 8-5, in hot hitting battle
The Bowling Green Hot Rods (5-9, 37-46) scored early and often on Thursday night and they held off a late rally by the Lake County Captains (9-5, 36-48). The Hot Rods took the series with a 8-5 win in the rubber game in front of 7,677 fans at Classic Park. The game featured 13 runs, 29 hits and ten extra base hits.

Akron RubberDucks lose to Erie SeaWolves, 6-1
The Akron RubberDucks totaled eight hits, but lost to the Erie SeaWolves, 6-1. Bryan LaHair and Anthony Gallas each tallied two hits, but the scoring touch was hard to find after the second inning for Akron. Duke von Schamann picked up the loss after giving up four hits and five walks in 4.2 innings of work.

Columbus Clippers give up 11 hits, lose 2-1 to Toledo
When the other team’s starter has a flawless outing, there’s not much you can do. That’s exactly what happened on Thursday night, as the Columbus Clippers (46-41) fell 2-1 to the Toledo Mud Hens (43-45), thanks to magnificence of Toledo’s starter Derek Hankins.

As with every year it brings a high-paced amount of signings that have been agreed on for weeks or months, and also brings with it a lot of questions as many don't understand how it works. Storylines: Verlander gets first win in two months
For years Justin Verlander has been the “ace,” of the Detroit Tigers and one of the best starting pitchers in baseball, however it has been a struggle for the former Cy Young the last two years. He got core muscle surgery in January and has not been the same ever since. In 17 starts this season Verlander is 6-7 with a 4.80 ERA and only 85 strikeouts. This would be his 3rd worse ERA of his career.

Mahoning Valley Scrappers use strong pitching to top Auburn, 2-1
Juan Santana and Justin Garcia combined to toss seven innings of two-hit, no-run baseball to lead the Mahoning Valley Scrappers to a 2-1 win against the Auburn Doubledays. Garcia earned the win while Edward Estrella came in for the two-inning save. Steven Patterson sparked the Scrappers' offense with a home run in the first before Bradley Zimmer added the winning run in the same inning.

Akron RubberDucks tagged for 6-4 loss by Erie SeaWolves
The Akron RubberDucks picked up nine hits, but couldn't rally quite enough as they lost to the Erie SeaWolves, 6-4. Bryan LaHair and Anthony Gallas each had two hits to pace the offense in a losing effort. Cody Anderson was tagged with his eighth loss of the season after giving up nine hits and four earned runs in five innings of play.

Carolina Mudcats shut down Lynchburg for seven innings in win
The Carolina Mudcats managed just four runs on 12 hits, but still came up with a 4-2 victory against Lynchburg Wednesday. Carolina used a two-run third to take the 3-2 lead before sealing the game with a run in the fourth. The Mudcats added two errors on the day, but the pitching staff allowed just six total hits. Ryan Merritt picked up the win for Carolina.

Columbus Clippers trampled by Toledo Mud Hens, 7-2
Kyle Davies took the bump for Columbus Wednesday night against the Toledo Mud Hens. The Mud Hens got the best of the starter collecting four runs on four hits. Davies lasted four innings and was saddled with his fourth loss after the Clippers' 7-2 trampling.

Lake County Captains beat Bowling Green Hot Rods, 4-2
The Lake County Captains beat the Bowling Green Hot Rods, 4-2, behind seven hits, including three for extra bases. Mitch Brown picked up with win after six solid innings, including seven strikeouts, and Trevor Frank got the save. Clint Frazier blasted a sixth-inning home run while Richard Stock picked up two hits for the Captains.
