Orbiting Cleveland: Putting things into perspective

While the loss was a tough one to sour, it's important to not discount the immense improvement made by the Indians in Terry Francona's first season as manager. It appears as if the foundation is now set for this team to be a contender for years to come. Join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he offers his perspective on the topic in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Trend Spotting: Finding the value gap, position by position
When a team goes from a 94 loss season to a 92 win season there are going to be a collection of production increases at multiple positions. Today, in brevity the IBI's Michael Hattery looks at the positional production team wide using surface statistics to show the difference from 2012 to 2013. This is a great read and shows how the Indians made marked improvement in 2013 and where they can look for creative opportunities to improve in 2014.

Second Thoughts: AL Wildcard – Rays 4, Indians 0
A packed Progressive Field was rocking at the start of last night’s AL Wildcard game between the Rays and Indians, but it was not enough as the Indians fell short 4-0. With the win, the Rays move on to face the Red Sox in Game 1 of the ALDS on Friday in Fenway Par. With the loss, the Indians get set to pack their bags and head home for the season. The IBI's Tony Lastoria shares his second thoughts on the game.

Cleveland heartbreak: Indians shutout to halt postseason run
For a city that has endured countless pain and suffering when it comes to sports teams, Wednesday night at Progressive Field simply added more heartbreak. The Indians first trip to the postseason in six years ended before it really started, as the Tampa Bay Rays behind the arm of 25-year old right-hander Alex Cobb shutout the Tribe, 4-0 to win the one-game wild card playoff, ending Cleveland’s season.

Indians claim Cloyd, DFA Rapada
The American League Wildcard game may happening, but that did not stop the Cleveland Indians from making a move toward boosting their depth for 2014 and beyond. On Wednesday evening they claimed right-handed pitcher Tyler Cloyd from the Philadephia Phillies. To make room for him they designated left-handed pitcher Clay Rapada for assignment.

The Indians and the Rays - A tale of two franchises

Second Thoughts: Mythbusters Edition
The Indians have accomplished the near-improbable in 2013 by clinching not only a wild card berth, but home field advantage in the one-game playoff, As the fans and players celebrate before the Wild Card game on Wednesday, there are some unflattering theories about why they may not deserve to be playing in October. Join the IBI's Jake Dungan as he plays the role of "Mythbuster" in his pre-Wild Card Second Thoughts piece.

Second Thoughts: The wild card roster
Although the Indians' expanded roster was able to celebrate a playoff berth after their clinching victory in game 162, the harsh reality is that this journey into October means the end of the road for a number of players. When the team gets to Progressive Field on Wednesday, once again, only 25 players will be in uniform. The IBI's Kevin Dean looks at the possibilities with roster for the wildcard game.
