Tribe Happenings: COLLAPSE
The Indians beat Justin Verlander and the Detroit Tigers on July 26th in their most stirring victory of the season. It gave them a 7-3 record against the Tigers, and gave them the springboard to start their first major win streak of the season. Of course, they then lost eight in a row. Join us, won't you, as we dive right into the Indians collapse, 2012 style. Don't worry, we talk about some good in there too...

Second Thoughts: Game #107 Tigers 6, Indians 1
The Indians lost their seventh game in a row, and are now 8 1/2 games behind the Chicago White Sox. Their run differential is the worst in the American League (fourth worst in all of baseball, behind Houston, Colorado and Miami) right now at a crazy -88 runs, and the big league club is beginning to look a lot like the Columbus Clippers did back in April. Check out Jim B. and his Second Thoughts, after the jump...

Corner of Carnegie and Ontario:The Road Not Taken
Chris Antonetti threw up the white flag on the 2012 season this past Tuesday when they failed to make any moves leading up to the trade deadline. While many consider this to be a smart play, it goes directly against the move made during last season's trade deadline. Are the Indians taking the correct path? Join Jim Pete at the Corner of Carnegie for his look at the Indians' crossroads...

Damon designated...
The Cleveland Indians designated Johnny Damon for assignment today, ended a fairly controversial tenure that forced the former all-star outfielder into the field after two seasons in the DH-role. To say it was even a moderate success would be the overstatement of the millennium, and that's definitively not hyperbole. Good luck to you Johnny Damon in your quest to latch on to a playoff contender.

Second Thoughts: Game #106 Tigers 10, Indians 2
And the losing streak continues. After being swept by the Minnesota Twins and Kansas City Royals this past week, the Indians dropped their seventh game in a row to Detroit on Friday night, 10-2. It marked just the third time the team was defeated by the Tigers in 10 games this season.

Second Thoughts: Game #105 - Indians 6, Royals 7
The Indians went down early, fought back, then found a way to lose in the end. Just another day in the life for Cleveland fans. There were some good moments, like Carlos Santana's continued resurgence and Corey Kluber's ability to dig deep after a rough 1st, but that's little consolation. Join Jason Ruggiero as he gives his second thoughts on a tough loss last night in Kansas City.

Second Thoughts: Game #104 - Indians 2, Royals 5
Well, that just might do it. The Indians lost for the fifth time in a row last night on their current road trip 5-2 to the Royals, losses to teams they should be beating if they want to stay in the playoff race. They are now seven games out of first place and the season is quickly transitioning from contention to evaluation for next season. Adam McGavin gives his second thoughts on another tough loss last night...

Starting pitching rundown
A lot of the focus on improving the Indians current roster has focused on offensive upgrades, specifically regarding left field and the corner infield positions. However, the Tribe’s starting rotation is as much or more of a concern, and that concern has more than shown itself during the Indians current road trip through Minnesota and Kansas City. Adam McGavin runs through the starting pitching performances to date and looks at what options - if any - the Indians have to fill the holes internally.

Second Thoughts: Game #103 - Indians 3, Royals 8
What an awful day for the Indians on Tuesday. First they stand pat and do very little to improve the team at the trade deadline, and then their team put up another poor showing on the field with Derek Lowe maybe putting the final nail in his coffin for his career and the offense continued to sputter. It all added up to an 8-3 loss to the Royals. New IPI writer William Biggar gives his second thoughts on the game...

Indians acquire first baseman/outfielder Lars Anderson
It might not be the blockbuster deal many fans were hoping for, but the Cleveland Indians were able to make some noise (more like a whisper) before Tuesday's trade deadline. The Indians acquired first baseman/outfielder Lars Anderson from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for Double-A starting pitcher Steven Wright.

2012 Trade Deadline: Last minute updates
Will the Indians be buyers or sellers? All of us should know that for certain in the next few hours as the 4:00pm EST trade deadline passes today. For some quick notes and thoughts on some players tied to the Indians or may be tied to them, check them out in Tony's latest Indians rumor update.

Second Thoughts: Game #102 - Twins 5, Indians 1
The Twins completed a sweep of the Indians on Sunday and outscored the Indians in the series 28-6. With the trade deadline looming, the Indians have way more questions than answers at this point. Was this series the beginning of the end for Cleveland's playoff hopes, or should the upcoming deadline inspire some hope? With an off day on Monday and the Indians not playing again until after the deadline, things could get very interesting the next several hours. Andy Nichols chimes in with his second thoughts...

Allen's rapid ascent a surprise even to himself
The rise to the big leagues is a tough, tumultuous trail at times, but Cleveland Indians’ relief pitcher Cody Allen was fortunate enough to fast-forward the process. Cody Allen started the 2012 season at High-A Carolina then breezed through Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus before getting his first ever big league call on July 20th. Stephanie Metzger recently sat down with the talented righty to try and bring into focus what has been a crazy, exciting year for him.

Tribe Happenings: Buy, do not sell
The Indians have proven to be a mediocre team this season. They are too inconsistent with their starting pitching and offense to win as a consistent pace, have flaws with their roster and are fading in the AL Central as the calendar gets set to flip to August. But Tony believes the Indians should be buyers and look for ways to improve the roster, and also says they need to take more risks and work to restore the faith in the fans.

Second Thoughts: Game #100 Twins 11, Indians 0
Coming into the game having just beaten the American League MVP and Cy Young Award winner in Justin Verlander, the Indians made Twins left-hander Scott Diamond look like a Cy Young candidate himself, getting embarrassed and losing to Minnesota 11-0 on last night. Jim Berdysz does his best to sift through the carnage in today's Second Thoughts.

Internal errors
No one ever said it was easy to be the general manager of a Major League ball club. Just days before the 2012 MLB trade deadline, Indians general manager Chris Antonetti finds himself the subject of major scrutiny as he tried to acquire and arm and bat. But what about the internal options to improve the club that have largely gone ignored? Steve Orbanek opines...
