Second Thoughts: Lineup optimization and Yan Gomes
The Indians offense is strewn with inconsistency. It may be a challenge to pick at an offense that just dropped 10 runs in Seattle but we all know that the week preceding was an offensive struggle. The IBI's Michael Hattery takes a stab at analyzing and determining what he believes is the Indians optimum lineup, and it is much different than what Francona has been writing into the lineup card of late. He also chimes in with a request to get Yan Gomes more playing time.

Around the Farm: July 22, 2013
Columbus righty Trevor Bauer had a really positive performance on Monday night throwing a complete game and was strong throughout his outing. Akron phenom Francisco Lindor had another big night at the plate and just continues to impress. All of this and more as the IBI's Michael Hattery takes us Around the Farm....

Trend Spotting: Michael Bourn and a few notes
The current baseball structure promotes the extreme of baseball. In Cleveland Indians' terms, this focuses the Indians' media energy on the excruciating struggles of Mark Reynolds, and the growing brilliance of Jason Kipnis. Michael Bourn has been playing in between both extremes and has been quietly producing stats worthy of the contract he signed just prior to spring training. Join IBI's SABR-superstar, Michael Hattery, as he takes a closer look.

Trend Spotting: Lineup depth, Chisenhall and ACab
IBI's resident sabremetrics' specialist Michael Hattery takes a close up look at the Cleveland Indians offense in comparison to the Tigers, re-examines Lonnie Chisenhall's potential premature demotion earlier this year and subsequent promotion, and analyzes why the time may be now to pull the trigger on an Asdrubal Cabrera trade. Become a trend setter with Michael Hattery, IBI's trend spotter...

Orbiting Cleveland: Salazar, Carrasco and Path Dependency
With Steve Orbanek off getting married (congratulations Steve!), Orbiting Cleveland will be under new management for the next two weeks. Michael Hattery steps in, writing about the debut of Danny Salazar and how, in some ways, he is the anti-Carlos Carrasco. Michael breaks down the two pitchers, what their futures could hold, and much more in this week's edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Around the Farm: July 8, 2013
Wow, what a big night for two Tribe second basemen in their farm system as both Joey Wendle and Jose Ramirez put up huge performances. The IBI's Michael Hattery discusses the two top second base prospects for the organization as well as many others in his trip around the farm on Monday night.

Trend Spotting: Corey Kluber and a split personality disorder
Of the many pieces that have fallen into place for the Indians so far Corey Kluber has been in all likelihood the most surprising. From the start of spring training expectations surrounding Kluber and the Indians rotation were non-existent. In fact, the words most frequently associated or espoused about Kluber were probably 4A starter, rotation depth, 7th or 8th starter and long man. The IBI's Michael Hattery breaks down the numbers to try and get a feel for who the real Corey Kluber is...

Second Thoughts Game #84: Indians 5, Royals 6
The Indians experienced all sorts of delays on Wednesday night, first due to weather and then another one later in the game due to a power outage. In the midst of all of that the Indians bullpen struggles resurfaced again as Bryan Shaw threw gas on the first in the sixth to turn a 3-1 lead into a 5-3 disadvantage. The IBI's Michael Hattery shares his second thoughts on some questionable bullpen management by Terry Francona.

Around the Farm: July 1, 2013
The big league team was off on Monday, which put all of the focus on the minor league teams as every team was in action. There were some very good performances on the night - some not so good - but Danny Salazar, Jesus Aguilar, Dorssys Paulino and others headlined the night on the farm.

Second Thoughts Game #81: Indians 4, White Sox 3
Over the past three games, the Indians have come back from five down after the first, three down in the ninth and one down in the sixth to beat a downtrodden White Sox team. The Tribe’s ability to continually battle and grind out good at bats has paid of immensely late in games, and they have now won five of seven games on their current 11-game road trip. The IBI's Michael Hattery chimes in with his second thoughts as the Indians sit at the halfway point of the season.

Trend Spotting: On the star that is Jason Kipnis
Starting the second game of the Indians twin bill against the White Sox, splitting time between Seinfield and the torturously slow Jose Quintana, the IBI's Michael Hattery began to pour over the absurdity of production that is Jason Kipnis. Perhaps it is “trendy” to discuss Jason’s torrid rate but for intents and purposes it is an unavoidable discourse that ends in Michael drooling over his fangraphs profile. He breaks it all down in his latest Trend Spotting piece...

Second Thoughts Game #77: Indians 4, Orioles 3
Scott Kazmir was absolutely brilliant for the second consecutive start, limiting a good Orioles offense to just one run over seven innings. Joe Smith came in and blew the lead in the eighth but the bats rallied for two runs in the ninth and then Vinnie Pestano slammed the door in the ninth for a much needed 4-3 Indians win. The IBI's Michael Hattery shares his "second thoughts" on the game...

Trend Spotting: Michael Brantley's value conflict
One of the many ideas emphasized throughout the Indians offseason was that the front office truly believed that it had developed a core group of players that they could build around in order to compete for division titles. They even made some acquisitions by signing free agents Nick Swisher and Michael Bourn to expand to that core. The IBI's Michael Hattery takes a look at whether or not Michael Brantley truly should be part of that core...
