Indians drop spring opener to Reds, 8-3
It may not feel like it in Cleveland, but baseball is officially back. The Indians dropped their Cactus League opener against their state rival Cincinnati Reds Wednesday afternoon, 8-3. Outscoring the Tribe 6-1 over the final four frames, Cincy cruised to the easy victory in the spring opener at Goodyear Ballpark. IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz recaps the action.

Do the Indians need a left-handed starter?
The 1984 Detroit Tigers did something no other team in the history of baseball has ever done. Win a World Series without a left-handed starter. And we're not talking just the Fall Classic either, but an entire regular season without one. Fast forward 30 years, and the Indians head into the 2014 season without a southpaw in their rotation. IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz wonders if the team should add a lefty into the mix.

Starting from the Top: Bourn, Swisher and Kipnis
Last year, they started from the bottom. This year, we're starting from the top—at the top of the Indians lineup that is. For 56 games last year, Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher and Jason Kipnis hit one, two and three in the Tribe order respectively. They were far from the most potent bunch in baseball, but they have given Cleveland a new look and a new identity offensively. IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz takes a closer look at the offensive trio.

Indians to unveil new Jim Thome statue
Sometimes things come natural. For Indians legend Jim Thome, the game of baseball was just that. The left-handed slugger had the natural ability to be a presence in the batter's box, and of course, knock 'em out of the park. Cleveland announced they will unveil the new Thome statue at Progressive Field on August 2. IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz caught up with Thome at TribeFest and shares his thoughts on the future ballpark fixture.

Should Ryan Raburn play every day?
At this very moment last winter, Ryan Raburn was unemployed. Ending 2012 with a .171 batting average, he was cut from Detroit after playing just 66 games with the Tigers. One year later, he's revived his baseball career once again, this time some 170 miles south of Motown as a member of the Indians. IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz wonders if Raburn should play every day in 2014.

Francona once again holds key to Indians offseason
Hall of Fame manager Tommy Lasorda once said," Managing is like holding a dove in your hand. Squeeze too hard and you kill it; not hard enough and it flies away." Terry Francona seems to have the perfect grasp when it comes to holding the Indians together. IBI Tribe beat reporter Jim Berdysz discusses why Francona will once again prove to be valuable this offseason.

Giambi walk-off homer sends Tribe to biggest victory of the year

For the Indians, their most special player just may be a 42-year old with a .181 batting average. Second Thoughts Game #155: Indians 4, Astros 1
It felt like it was October at the corner of Carneige and Ontario Saturday night. Putting up three runs in the first inning, the Indians made quick work of the Houston Astros for the 4-1 win. Scoring four runs on 16 hits in the first two games of the series, the Tribe scored four runs off Astros starter Paul Clemens through the first four innings. That was far from being the storyline of another Cleveland win though, as Indians starter Scott Kazmir continued his quest for the postseason with another brilliant performance.

Royals power past Tribe 7-2, take three-game series
Only the Indians caught themselves howling at the full moon above Kaufmann Stadium Wednesday night. A three run first inning and defensive miscues were too much for the Tribe to overcome, as they fell to the Royals in the rubber match, 7-2. The win gives Kansas City the series victory as they take two out of three against Cleveland for the second time over the last 10 days.
