For the second time in as many weeks, the Indians put themselves in a position to sweep an ever-difficult four-game series. In a game where their starter got through just three innings and their three impenetrable backend relievers all faltered, naturally, they pulled it out. In game-winning fashion. Again. Kevin Dean shares his second thoughts on a thrilling come from behind walkoff 10-8 win for the Indians.
Monday at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario featured a traditional doubleheader against the Yankees, and a few people were actually there to see it and everything! The Indians scored a grand total of one run, but managed to split the day, thanks to the team's best pitching performance of the young campaign. The IBI's Kevin Dean provides his "second thoughts" on the matchup...
The Indians got back on the winning path on Monday as they belted four homers and beat the Athletics, 7-3. One of those four homers was a gigantic moon shot of a homer off the bat of Mark Reynolds, who got sweet revenge after he had just been hit with a pitch in an earlier at bat. Also, Ubaldo Jimenez was good for his second straight start. The IBI's Kevin Dean talks about that and more...
Who was that masked man? That was not the Ubaldo we have all come to loathe, and to his credit he pitched a wonderful ballgame and helped the Indians cruise to a much needed 9-0 win and more importantly finish the road trip with a 5-4 record. Ryan Raburn got into the action and clubbed two home runs, Carlos Santana continues to sizzle, and Asdrubal Cabrera looks to be heating up. All of that and more in today's "second thoughts"...
Justin Masterson has been sensational so far this season, and while he was not on his A-game last night he still battled and worked his way through seven innings and hung around just long enough to earn the win. Asdrubal Cabrera came through with a big two-run single in the eighth inning to put the Indians up 3-2 and the Bullpen Mafia did the rest to preserve a much needed Tribe win against a division rival. The IBI's Kevin Dean shares his "second thoughts" on the game...
The Indians were off on Monday, but the IBI's Kevin Dean used the opportunity to dig into the team's advanced numbers 11 games into the season. Even though the sample size to date is small, you have to start somewhere when looking at stats. The information in the data so far aligns very much with what has been seen on the field.
Baseball returned to Cleveland yesterday. Optimism surrounding the Indians was in the air and everywhere to be seen downtown. That is, until Ubaldo Jimenez fell into a familiar set of bad habits, and a familiar face crashed the annual party. The IBI's Kevin Dean breaks down the game and gives some "second thoughts" on what he saw in the Indians home opener loss.
The World Baseball Classic came to a close on Tuesday night when the Dominican Republic defeated Puerto Rico 3-0 to win the WBC crown. The Indians featured five active players, and with the tournament over the IBI's Kevin Dean reviews the performances by all five players in what was really an exciting, well played tournament.
The Indians avoided a series sweep at the hands of the hated Tigers thanks to some good ole Progressive Field late inning magic where they scored two runs in the bottom of the ninth and won 7-6 yesterday. Losses like that this late in the season can be crippling to teams fighting for a playoff spot, so even if was a meaningless win for the Indians it was still nice to see a little spark from them, and against a division rival to boot. Kevin Dean shares his thoughts on the game.
The Indians battled on Sunday and actually played one of their better games offensively in awhile, but it was not enough as Justin Mourneau deposited a Vinnie Pestano pitch into the seats in the bottom of the ninth inning for an 8-7 walkoff victory for the Twins. Kevin Dean shares his thoughts on Sunday's game and more...
After the most futile month in team history, the calendar finally read "September." The Indians opened it with a solid victory on Saturday, but Sunday looked more like August again. Seven extra-base hits paced the Rangers, and the Tribe was again unable to keep up.
The Indians ended their nine game losing streak with a win on Saturday, but their winning ways came to a quick end on Sunday with a 4-2 loss to the Yankees. It was another series loss for the Indians who are rapidly fading in the American League standings, and now a playoff contending Oakland team comes into town for four games. Kevin Dean provides his second thoughts on yesterday's game.
The Indians have failed to do much of anything recently, and Sunday's game was a microcosm of their futility. The bonus of the game was that it was over rather quickly, which about sums up how quickly the Indians went from a contender, to perhaps the worst team in baseball. Join Kevin Dean with his Second Thoughts on Sunday's ballgame...after the jump...
The Cleveland Indians took a commanding 4-0 lead in Game 119, as he launched a grand slam in the fourth inning. It wasn't enough though, as the A's ran off six unanswered runs against the beleaguered Indians, as they dropped the Tribe 6-4. Join Kevin Dean, as he provides his Second Thoughts on Duncan, Donald, McAllister and Choo...
The Indians finished off their seven game homestand on Sunday the way it started....with a loss. An ugly one at that as they lost 14-1 to the Red Sox. The Indians were able to end their 11-game slide during their homestand, but finished 3-4 during the short stay at home, and now go on the road where they have lost nine straight and head out West to play the Angles, A's and Mariners over the next ten days. Kevin Dean provides his second thoughts on yesterday's ugly loss...
The Indians had no offense to speak of on Friday, in a 1-0 win. The Indians rolled out nine runs on Saturday in a loss, then followed that up by getting shutout in Sunday's game, 3-0. It's good to see the Indians remain consistently inconsistent to start the second half. The Indians also fell into third place after Sunday's loss, thanks to the Tigers' victory, and are now four games behind the first place White Sox. Join Kevin Dean with his "Second Thoughts" on Sunday's ballgame...
