The Rule 5 Draft commences a week from tomorrow out in Orlando, Florida at the tail end of the Winter Meetings. What kind of players are typically drafted and what levels do they come from? What positions are the primary focus of the draft, and what positions rarely get selected? The IBI's Jeff Ellis chimes in with his yearly Rule 5 Draft review where he analyzes all that and more...

The Ultimate Indians Draft continues on with the best picks of all time for the Indians in rounds 40 to 31. This is a series of articles here at the IBI where draft guru Jeff Ellis is going through all of the Indians June drafts in their history and determining the best picks round by round. This is an interesting overview of their June draft history, and in some ways, a trip down memory lane of some draft successes (and failures).

David Murphy’s signing was some of the biggest news so far during the baseball offseason. The question is was this a good move for the Indians and what does it mean for the Indians plans this offseason. The IBI's Jeff Ellis offers up his thoughts with all of the pros and cons to his signing, and weighs in on whether or not it was a good deal for the Indians.

Welcome to the Ultimate Indians Draft, a series of articles here at the IBI where draft guru Jeff Ellis picked the best draft picks in Indians history round by round. The Indians have certainly had some big hits (and misses) over the years in the draft, but this is an interesting way to look at where the Indians really found some gems in some drafts and did well in a particular round. Jeff starts things off with his best picks in rounds 51 to 41.

The 2013 baseball season is coming to an end and all the summer baseball leagues are done, so a lot of places are releasing their big boards and talking about the big name players in the draft. The MLB draft is about eight months away, but IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis is already getting daily questions about it. Last month he released his first big board, now today he posts his first mock draft of the year.

Carlos Santana is the most underappreciated Cleveland sports athlete the IBI's Jeff Ellis has seen in his life time. The amount of people who want him sent out of town or that think he is a terrible disappointment never ceases to amaze Jeff. He comes up with a few theories as to why he is disliked by so many and also puts to bed several myths about him and shows why he is arguably he most valuable bat in the Indians lineup.

Over the past few years a lot has been made of the Indians draft record of late. IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis has heard many fans lament the bad drafts and wish for the good old days of John Hart when the organization was loaded with talent and seemed to always produce new players to fill a need. His research shows how the last three Indians GMs prior to Chris Antonetti had their own areas of strength and how the draft for the past 20 years has not produced many major league options in Cleveland.

Tune in for the last Inside Pitch of this year

The IBI's Jeff Ellis has often wondered where the top starting pitchers in baseball come from. Do they come from the draft or internationally? Do they come from college or high school? Is there any rhyme or reason to it all or is there really no such thing as a starting pitching prospect (TINSTAAPP)? He came up with some data which he believes helps answer that question and why the Indians may be a prime position for the 2014 Draft.

During today's episode, Andrew and Jeff will debate the Trent Richardson deal. Who could have seen this coming? Can any sense be made of it? Who becomes the new face of the Cleveland Browns? What do the Browns do in the 2014 draft? Was it too early to give up on the season? They'll also talk Tribe. Are Salazar and Kazmir regressing? How much does the lack of a big bat hurt the team? What are the remaining...

It is several months before the college baseball season begins, but that doesn't mean people aren't already talking draft. Since the summer leagues are done and the showcase circuit is over, IBI draft guru Jeff Ellis decided to sit down and make his first draft board. Next year's draft figures to be the best pool of talent in years, and with the Indians holding at least two first round picks it could be a very important draft for them.

Back in December the IBI's Jeff Ellis made a comparison between Asdrubal Cabrera and former Tribe fan favorite Carlos Baerga. He saw some concerning things with Cabrera going into his age 27 season that were similar to Carlos Baerga when his career flatlined in his age 27 season. He revisits the comparison and shows how similar the fade for both has been, the differences in their struggles, and if there is any hope for a rebound for Cabrera.

Next up in the three year review series are the starting pitchers. The IBI's Jeff Ellis handled this group on the whole and used some advanced stats to try and show how things have changed for the Indians than in previous years. At the start of the year he felt this was a weak link unit for the Indians and they would ultimately fail because of it, but their showing to date is impressive and bodes well for the future.

The last position for the three year review is centerfield. This was the hardest position to look at for Jeff Ellis because it was supposed to have been set with Grady Sizemore. The Indians signed Michael Bourn in the offseason to seemingly lock up the position for years, but he says the Indians have actually seen a decrease in performance at the position this season.

There are only two positions left for this series, and it’s been a tight race to see if this offense has improved over the last two years. For all the money invested it has not been a slam dunk improvement. This has been due in part to early season injuries which seemed to short circuit both Michael Bourn and Nick Swisher to varying degrees. In today's piece the IBI's Jeff Ellis takes a look at the right fielders for the Indians over the last three years and determines if they have improved or regressed at the position this season.

The next position to tackle in this series is that of left field. It is a position that bottomed out last year for the Indians and is now home to the one and only Dr. Smooth. Is he the answer this team needs or should they be looking to upgrade left field? The IBI's Jeff Ellis breaks it down to determine whether the Indians should stand pat or look to improve this position going forward.

During this week's special afternoon edition, Andrew and Jeff will discuss whether now is the time to hit the panic button with the Cleveland Indians. Can they still contend? Why is Asdrubal Cabrera still hitting cleanup? Does Terry Francona leave his pitchers in too long? They'll also talk some NFL football. Is it worth watching pre-season games? Should there be any reason to be concerned about Trent Richardson? What should we expect from the Cleveland Browns this season? All that and more on this week's edition of The Inside Pitch!

The next position to tackle in this series is that of designated hitter. This position has been surprisingly ineffective for the Indians over the past few years thanks to a mix of injuries and just plain lack of production. The major difference for this position is that we can look at it purely through the offensive prism as defense just doesn't matter, and the IBI's Jeff Ellis breaks it down to determine whether the Indians have improved or gotten worse at the position this season.

To Cleveland sports writers, Marc Rzepczynski might be the worst addition ever. The man otherwise known as Scrabble because of his tough name to spell and pronounce was dealt to the Indians on Tuesday, and the IBI's Jeff Ellis provides some flash analysis and thoughts on the Indians trade deadline pickup.

In his fifth part of this series, the IBI's Jeff Ellis takes a look at the Indians catching position over the past three years and shows how productive the position has been for them and how it has significantly improved this season. He also sheds light on what a crazy talent Carlos Santana has become and how he is no doubt a top five player at his position.
