We continue on with our year-end pieces for the Indians minor league affiliates with an inside look at the hitters at Low-A Lake County. Recently, Tony had a chance to sit down with Indians Assistant Director of Player Development Carter Hawkins to get the organization’s thoughts on the performance/development of some of the players there this season, and he includes those comments on players like Logan Vick, Eric Haase, Dorssys Paulino, Anthony Santander, Joe Sever, Richard Stock, Jeremy Lucas, and others.

Amazingly, the 2013 Arizona Fall League season wraps up late next week. It has been a little more condensed version than in years past, but it still has given players from all 30 organizations a chance to face some of the best talent in the upper levels of the minors for five weeks. One player who has benefited from that exposure has been right-handed pitcher Will Roberts, and the IBI's Tony Lastoria recently talked to him to see how things are going.

The Indians made news on Thursday when they released much maligned closer Chris Perez and then also made a minor trade and resigned Jason Giambi. Then on Friday they picked up the option on Ubaldo Jimenez's contract only to see him decline it. Tony shares his thoughts on all of the moves and discusses what the Indians should do at closer now that Perez is gone and also how important it is to retain one of Jimenez or Scott Kazmir in the starting rotation.

The Indians had a full slate of action on Saturday night as players were playing across the globe in four different winter leagues and in three different time zones. Saturday night saw the offseason debut of hot outfield prospect Carlos Moncrief and he had a good first showing, and Tony comments on that game and runs down the rest of the performances in Around the Farm...

Today we wrap up the 2013 Tony Awards with the announcement of the All-Tony teams for 2013. These are the first, second and third teams as Tony sees them in the Cleveland Indians organization based on their performance this past year. Again, this is not a top prospect listing by position, but a listing based 100% on performance from the 2013 season.

Today we continue the IBI’s year-end awards with the announcement of the Offensive Player of the Year. This award goes to the position player in the Indians organization that had the best year. Like with all the awards so far, this is 100% based on performance and not on prospect standing. Tony lists all of the top performances and narrows it down to three players who all had fantastic seasons, and his pick as the top player may come as a surprise.

The Indians announced today that they have exercised the 2014 club option ($8 million) on right-handed pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez. Because of the parameters of his contract where if he were traded, his 2014 club option turned into a mutual option when he was traded from the Rockies to the Indians in July of 2011. As a result, Jimenez voided the contract and is now a free agent.

It may have been a wild night for many because it was Halloween, but the winter leagues were quiet as far as Indians action goes as only four Indians players were in action on Thursday night. Tyler Naquin keeps rolling along and will be playing in the Rising Stars game this week, and Tony talks about that and a few other things in Around the Farm....

The Cleveland Indians today announced a flurry of moves on the first official day of the 2013-2014 offseason. The biggest move was the announcement that right-handed pitcher Chris Perez was given his unconditional release, but they also announced a trade with the Padres for lefty Colt Hynes and resigned Jason Giambi to a minor league deal.

Since the Indians season ended four weeks ago they have been discussing the makeup of their roster for next season with where they need to subtract, where they need to add, what they need to modify, and where they need to get stronger. Tony takes a deeper look into how that process works and explains some of the reasoning behind moves at this time of the year, and he also looks at all 44 players on the 40-man roster and predicts who he thinks are no longer on it by the November 20th roster deadline.

A total of five Indians players were in action in the Arizona Fall League on Wednesday, but it was the debut of one player in particular which great to see as right-hander Tyler Sturdevant made his long awaited return to competitive game action after offseason shoulder surgery last year. Tony looks at his performance as well as the showings from the others in the AFL and other winter leagues.

"The Radar Report" is a premium feature that lists fastball velocities and other notes for several pitchers in the Indians' system which Tony has recorded during his visits to see the teams/players. Today's listing has 20 radar readings for pitchers in the Indians' minor league system that he saw pitch in Instructional League and the Arizona Fall League, and he includes some scouting notes on all of them and where available he has also included the velocity ranges for their secondary pitches.

The starting pitchers often get most of the focus, so this award gives an opportunity to showcase and recognize some of the top relief pitching performances in the Indians system over the course of the 2013 season. Today we continue the IBI postseason awards with the announcement of the Biggest Breakthrough in the minors. This award goes to the player who may not have been as highly touted coming into the season on prospect lists, but by the end of the season is definitely on the prospect map going into next season. The Indians had several players really breakthrough as prospects this season, and Tony talks about them all and picks his winner.
