Nick Maronde looking for a fresh start with the Tribe
Nick Maronde became the latest player to trade his halo for a block "C" or vice-versa this season as the Indians and Angels have now had multiple personnel change squads this year, including Joe Smith, Vinnie Pestano and, most recently, J.B. Schuck. After appearing in two College World Series and playing with some of the game's best in LA, the left-hander is ready for the next chapter in his career, as the IBI's Jake Dungan writes.

Second Thoughts Game #139: White Sox 1, Indians 2
After Thursday's defeat in extra innings, Cleveland returned to extra innings on Friday to defeat Chicago 2-1 in 10 and start the weekend series with a victory. Central to this victory was Yan Gomes, who has followed up a breakout 2013 and contract extension with continued excellence. The IBI's John Grimm breaks down Indians' catchers framing metric and considers one play in very particular depth.

Around the Farm: September 5, 2014
It was not a very good night on the farm as both Indians affiliates in action in playoff contests lost a pivotal Game 3. With Lake County off as they prepare to begin their Eastern Division Finals series, both Triple-A Columbus and Double-A Akron lost well pitched one run games. The IBI's Arthur Kinney recaps the action from Around the Farm...

Murphy's walk-off hit sends Indians over Chicago, 2-1
When it comes to walk-off wins, nobody in the American League does it better than the Indians. Activated off the disabled list just hours before first pitch Friday, outfielder David Murphy couldn't have had a better first at-bat back. Deadlocked with Chicago in a 1-1 tie in the 10th, Murphy notched a pinch-hit game winning single to center off reliever Maikel Cleto, edging the Tribe over the ChiSox, 2-1 in the series opener.

Second Thoughts Game #138: Tigers 11, Indians 4
Detroit's hitters didn't bother to take much time to congratulate new father Josh Tomlin on Thursday night as they tagged him for five runs in a seven-run 11th inning, which allowed the Tigers to clinch the series win with an 11-4 victory. Trevor Bauer's first-inning struggles also continued as he allowed four runs to start the game before settling in. Join the IBI's Jake Dungan as he gives his thoughts on the loss.

Detroit erupts for seven runs in extras, sending Tribe to 11-4 defeat

Diamonds in the Rough '14: Trevor Frank
This weekly feature piece here at the IBI specifically looks at some of the prospects that have maybe not had as much attention they deserve for a variety of reasons but who are interesting or are coming onto the scene. This week the IBI's Tony Lastoria takes a look at right-handed reliever Trevor Frank, a backend arm who has had a lot of success early in his pro career and a key member of the Low-A Lake County pitching staff this season. Captains Notebook: Captains get crucial Game 1 victory
Only one game truly mattered this past week and the Lake County Captains made it count. On Wednesday, the team sealed the first of a three-game series against the South Bend Silver Hawks to gain an edge in the first round of the Midwest League playoffs. The IBI's Stephanie Metzger recaps what happened over the final week of the Captains’ regular season and the first game of the playoffs.

Second Thoughts Game #137: Tigers 0, Indians 7
It would have been a disaster if the Indians were swept in this series. They would have been behind as much as seven games in the Wild Card race, which would have put the playoffs almost entirely out of reach. Winning at least one game was an absolute necessity, and now the Indians have done just that thanks to the arm of Danny Salazar and a surge offensively. The IBI's Michael Goodman provides his second thoughts on the big win for the Indians...

Around the Farm: September 3, 2014
The playoffs started Wednesday night for the Columbus Clippers, Akron RubberDucks, and Lake County Captains, with two of the three teams ending the night with a win. Though it was obviously more than a one-person effort, the Clippers and Captains used big nights from an outfielder to find victory (James Ramsey and Clint Frazier, respectively), while Duke von Schamann did his best for the RubberDucks in a loss. Join Jim Piascik as he recaps all of the playoff action and takes you Around the Farm.

Salazar tosses complete game shutout; Tribe blanks Detroit, 7-0
Six weeks ago Danny Salazar was wearing a Columbus Clippers uniform, pitching in Triple-A after a disappointing first two months of the season in the big leagues. He's since returned to the majors and hasn't missed a beat. Wednesday night against Detroit proved to be the right-hander's best start yet, hurling his first complete game shutout to help the Indians blank their division rivals, 7-0. Mudcats Notebook: 2014 season in review
The Carolina Mudcats third season as the Advanced-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians came to an end on Monday. Finishing at 33-36 in the second half and 62-74 overall, the Mudcats failed to make the playoffs in the Carolina League. There were several surprises throughout the season on the field. Some players were better than expected, some were not as good as expected, and others put on performances words almost cannot describe. Here is the IBI's Zachary Francis' take on the stars of the year...

Is it time to trade Lonnie Chisenhall?
A few months back the IBI's Jeff Ellis brought up what was then a more controversial view that the Indians should strongly look to trade Lonnie Chisenhall. At the time Chisenhall still looked like a breakout candidate and was not that far removed from being a potential all-star, but he held by the numbers which showed he was in for a massive regression, which we are seeing now. He looks into why the Indians should consider trading him and what they do with his spot in the lineup.
