On-Deck With the Captains: 8/22/14-8/27/2014
The Lake County Captains are going to the playoffs. It was a rough first half for the team, so rough that any thought of a playoff bid seemed long gone. Instead, the team bore down and crafted a successful second half, clinching a playoff spot on Aug. 27. The pitching has stepped up and the bats have produced, an obvious recipe for success. Now, the Captains will close the season out at home before they seek a Midwest League championship.

Second Thoughts Game #131: Chicago 3, Cleveland 2
After more dramatics from Zach Walters on Tuesday, Corey Kluber took the mound on Wednesday in a game where the Indians were the heavy favorites. The White Sox were losers of seven straight and 14 of their last 18. Meanwhile, the Indians had their ace on the mound, had won three straight, and were facing a pitcher they’d hit well all season. It didn’t matter. Join Michael Goodman as he gives his Second Thoughts on Wednesday's 3-2 loss.

Everything is coming together for Rodriguez this season
The Low-A Lake County Captains are on the verge of making the playoffs. The Captains roster has been in flux all season and features a good mix of legit high upside prospects along with some solid veteran role player types, but one player who has been there all season and might be the team MVP is first baseman Nellie Rodriguez. The IBI's Tony Lastoria talked with him earlier this season on the adjustments he has made over the past year-plus in the system.

Second Thoughts Game #128: Astros 2, Indians 3
It was a walk-off in Cleveland as Jose Ramirez drove home Tyler Holt to seal a 3-2 victory. In a series that has been defined by a lack of defense on both sides, Danny Salazar may have been the biggest perpetrator of poor defense on the Indians' side on Saturday, as his failure to back up a play in the 3rd allowed a second run to score. Nevertheless, the IBI's John Grimm suggests that from a purely pitching perspective, Danny Salazar is becoming the non-traditional contact manager that Cleveland had hoped.
