The Tampa Bay Rays signed young starter Chris Archer to a multi-year deal, continuing their organizational belief that you build and sign good, young pitchers to long-term deals before their worth skyrockets. The Indians have likewise signed players such as Carlos Santana, Yan Gomes and Michael Brantley to deals, but have yet to incorporate this strategy with their pitchers. Today, Jim Pete looks at the Rays, and points to Danny Salazar as a top candidate for a long-term contract.

Today we move on to the left fielders in our annual IBI positional rankings. Most teams spend a bulk of their time developing their higher end outfield prospects in center field with the idea that if they can’t cut it there that they could always go to left field. Some players just end up in left field because of a limitation with their arm strength or their defense in center field. In any case, the Indians have a few very interesting possible left field options coming up the system, even if it is a position that looks adequately filled for the time being with Michael Brantley.

The team also has Yan Gomes locked into a long-term contract at the major league level, furthering the depth in the system. Join Tony and see the scouting reports for the Indians catching prospects as well as how they rank at the position. 16 in total!

The 2013 Akron Aeros failed to repeat as Eastern League champions, finishing with a 68-73 record, but the first year under new owner Ken Babby proved to be a success. Babby brought a new energy to Canal Park, an energy that spread into the offseason. Canal Park now features a new restaurant above right field, picnic and premium seating in the outfield, and most importantly, a rebranded team: the Akron RubberDucks. Join Jim Piascik as he previews the 2014 RubberDucks.

Hours and hours of rain in Oakland threatened to take Opening Day away from us, but Mother Nature cooperated enough to allow the game. And what a game it was. Justin Masterson was brilliant once again on opening day and while the offense struggled the Indians finally broke through in the ninth inning to pull out an exciting 2-0 win on Opening Night.

In 2013, the Cleveland Indians did the unthinkable: they won 92 games a season after they had only won 68 games, and they made the playoffs. While Kenny Lofton is arguing THAT point, the one-game foray into the postseason realm galvanized the fanbase, and reminded many of what things could be like with a winning baseball team. On paper, the Indians didn't add much to the roster, but will their be enough internal improvement for this team to take it to the next step? Join Jim Pete for your chance and picking the Indians' future with today Power Poll-palooza!!!

With a new season upon us, it is once again time for Jim Piascik to rank Cleveland's roster from bottom to top. Many of the names are familiar from last year's 92-win playoff season, but there is some new blood (and a noticeable lack of Chris Perez). Today includes players ranked #12 to #1, which means a lot of players projected to receive most of the playing time (see: position players and starting pitchers). Join Jim as he unveils part two of his opening day roster rankings.
