Around the Farm: April 4, 2014
The Indians affiliates did not have much luck in the win column on Friday as Double-A Akron was rained out and all three of Triple-A Columbus, High-A Carolina and Low-A Lake County lost. The one saving grace, and really only one that matters, is the Indians winning 7-2. The IBI's Arthur Kinney chimes in with an IBI staple.....Around the Farm.

Orbiting Cleveland: The potential of Zach McAllister
Zach McAllister made his season debut for the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday, and it was a bit of a mixed bag. Yes, there were some positives, but it was far from a stellar performance. Nonetheless, the IBI's Steve Orbanek believes McAllister will play a key role for Indians and the team's chances for success in 2014, and he details that in the latest edition of Orbiting Cleveland.

Jason Kipnis is more than a "blue-collar" star
Jason Kipnis has always been considered a player that's been a hard-worker. Unfortunately, when you are stereo-typed as a hard-worker, you are often downgraded as a player that has to overcome a lack-of-talent. Kipnis has fought that "blue-collar" stereotype his entire life, and in doing so, proved to the Indians that he's more than just a guy that gets dirty. Join Jim Pete as he chronicles Kipnis and his meteoric rise from his high school brilliance, to contract renaissance.

2014 IBI Positional Rankings: The Center Fielders
Today we move on to the center fielders in our annual IBI positional rankings. It all starts up the middle. Not only do you need a catcher that controls a pitching staff and can shut down a running game and a shortstop that can direct the infield and showcase some exceptional range and consistency, you also need a good center fielder that can cover a lot of ground and be a leader in the outfielder. The Indians have several of those kind of center fielders and the IBI's Tony Lastoria ranks them all and more!

Also gone is arguably the Indians top pitching prospect in Cody Anderson, who followed Lindor and Naquin, as well as several other high upside Indians’ prospects, to Akron for the 2014 season.

The Indians have likewise signed players such as Carlos Santana, Yan Gomes and Michael Brantley to deals, but have yet to incorporate this strategy with their pitchers. Today, Jim Pete looks at the Rays, and points to Danny Salazar as a top candidate for a long-term contract.

2014 IBI Positional Rankings: The Left Fielders
Today we move on to the left fielders in our annual IBI positional rankings. Most teams spend a bulk of their time developing their higher end outfield prospects in center field with the idea that if they can’t cut it there that they could always go to left field. Some players just end up in left field because of a limitation with their arm strength or their defense in center field. In any case, the Indians have a few very interesting possible left field options coming up the system, even if it is a position that looks adequately filled for the time being with Michael Brantley.
