Errors, walk-off sink Scrappers 4-3
The Scrappers were on the cusp of splitting a two-game series with the Auburn Doubledays before errors and a walk-off sac-fly sent them packing by a score of 4-3. Re-energized by the miscues of their opponents, the Doubledays won the game 4-3 in the bottom of the tenth and swept the Scrappers on a walk-off sac-fly from catcher Andruth Ramirez.

Minor Happenings: Smith is improving, but swing needs work

In addition to that he provides some comments from Ross Atkins on how the organization prioritizes prospects for trades as well as comments on several players at Carolina and Lake County, plus he provides insight into the development of Paolo Espino, Kyle Crockett, Ryan Merritt, Luis Lugo and others.

Around The Farm: August 15, 2013
Is there anything better than seeing a top prospect take his team to victory? Sure, Lake County would not have won 1-0 without a shutout pitching performance, but Dorssys Paulino's solo home run provided all the offense the Captains needed. Paulino has continued to turn things around following his rough start and he sustained that constant progress Thursday night. To read about Paulino and everything else you need to know about the night in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik as he goes Around The Farm.

Around The Farm: August 14, 2013
Considering that Carlos Santana, Yan Gomes, and Lou Marson were all not developed in the organization, it is great to see catchers like Jake Lowery and Alex Lavisky performing like they did Wednesday night. The catching depth looks good in the minors and Lowery and Lavisky are a part of that. To read about what made their performances noteworthy and everything else you need to know about Wednesday night in the minor leagues, join Jim Piascik as he takes you Around The Farm.

Minor Happenings: Aviles is sill finding his way, but is improving

He also provides several comments from the front office on High-A Carolina players such as Joe Colon, Tony Wolters, Louis Head, Nick Pasquale, Bryson Myles and others, provides the whereabouts of Adam Plutko and why he is not pitching, and has a detailed infirmary report on just about every injured player in the minors.

Scrappers fall further off playoff pace with loss to Renegades
With the Mahoning Valley Scrappers winning the first two games of a three game set with the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Scrappers could at least keep a little hope of a playoff berth heading into the All-Star Game. That hope dropped a bit on Sunday, as Mahoning Valley squandered a late lead and eventually fell to Hudson Valley 6-5.

Kime, Scrappers shut down Renegades in 6-1 win
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers took advantage of early miscues by the Hudson Valley Renegades defense and brought their August winning percentage over .500, scoring a 6-1 victory Saturday night.

Minor Happenings: Aguilar is beginning to show some thunder

Scrappers come through in clutch for 3-2 win
After a disappointing three-game stretch to start the week, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers rectified the woeful start with a dramatic, walk-off victory Friday night, defeating the Hudson Valley Renegades 3-2. Mahoning Valley starting pitcher Caleb Hamrick threw well, and defensive miscues continued to be an area of weakness for the Scrappers. But clutch hitting can be the difference maker for a team, and that was the case Friday night.

The Scrapperbook: 7/26/2013 to 8/8/2013
Well, after a dreadful stretch of 12 straight losses essentially ruined their season, the Scrappers have come back with a vengeance. In 20 games since the streak, the Scrappers have managed to put together a 13-7 record and a 5-5 record since the last Scrapperbook. Join Hayden Grove as he breaks down the last two weeks for the Scrappers and highlights the ups and downs coming out of Mahoning Valley.

Around The Farm: August 7, 2013
After yet another depressing loss at the major league level, why not take some time to focus on the happiness and promise of the minor leagues? Why not bask in the insane success of Trevor Frank in the Mahoning Valley bullpen or the way that a finally healthy Alex Monsalve is producing at Akron? Leave all your Tiger trouble behind and join Jim Piascik as he recaps all you need to know about Wednesday night in the minor leagues and goes Around The Farm.

Spinners blank Scrappers 7-0
A wacky first inning got the Scrappers and starter Luis Lugo off on the wrong foot and cost them the game, as they fell to the Lowell Spinners for the second-straight night, by a final score of 7-0.

Rodriguez is slugging his way to success
“A star is born” is a clichè used in every sport. Often, it refers to a phenom, born with extraordinary talent in a given field, who has finally made the big time. Very rarely do you hear the words, “a star is built”. That is, unless you find yourself in the Mahoning Valley Scrappers clubhouse and bear witness to the emerging talent that is Nellie Rodriguez.
