2012 Tony Awards: Defensive Player of the Year
Today we continue with the IPI’s year-end awards with the announcement of the Defensive Player of the Year, an award given to the Indians minor leaguer who had the best season defensively. Prospect standing is not considered with these awards as they are 100% awarded based on performance. In the coming days the Biggest Disappointment, Biggest Breakthrough, Reliever of the Year, Comeback Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and All-Tony Team will be announced.

Akron Insider: 2012 season review
Today, Tony provides his sixth and final piece of his six-part series recapping all six of the Indians' stateside affiliates. Minor Happenings: A look at Chen's future
The minor league 2012 season officially ended for the Indians over the weekend with Double-A Akron winning a league title, but the beat goes on with Instructional League already in session and other fall and winter leagues set to start in the next few weeks. Aeros clinch Eastern League Championship
The Akron Aeros are the champions of the Eastern League for the 2012 season. On Saturday night, the Aeros completed a storybook season, and an improbable playoff resurrection, as they defeated the Trenton Thunder, 6-1, to win the EL Championship Series, three games to one. It is the fourth Eastern League pennant for the franchise since it relocated to the Akron/Canton area in 1989.

Trenton defeats Akron 11-7 to force Game 4
Trenton's Zoilo Almonte went 2-5 with five RBIs, including his second three-run homer of the series, as the Thunder out-slugged the Akron Aeros, 11-7, in game three of the EL Championship Series on Friday night at Waterfront Park.

Akron’s Ryan Rohlinger stroked a two-run home run to cap a five-run third inning Wednesday, as the Akron Aeros defeated the Trenton Thunder, 7-5, in game two of the Eastern League Championship series at Canal Park. With the win, the Aeros (82-59, 5-2) gained a commanding, two games to none lead in the best-of-five series.

Aeros gain quick 1-0 series lead
Akron starter Paolo Espino combined with two relievers for a three-hit shutout Tuesday night, as the Aeros claimed a 3-0 victory over the Trenton Thunder in the first game of the Eastern League Finals at Canal Park. With the win, the Aeros (82-59, 4-2) take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-five series. Akron had lost the first two games of the previous series against the Bowie Baysox.
