The door appeared to be closed on his potential return to the Indians when he declined a qualifying offer back in October, but his market has crashed enough where the Indians may be back in play for him. Or are they? Last weekend at Tribe Fest the Indians unveiled their plans for a Jim Thome statue to be placed in this ballpark and a ceremony for the unveiling on August 2nd. While Thome is one of the organization's greatest players of all time and he is a former fan favorite, this announcement is puzzling to many considering his departure from the team in 2002 and so many other former great Indians who were not given the honor. The IBI's Michael Hattery holds nothing back in his criticism of the decision.
