The Cleveland Indians will be facing off against the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night, and while the Rays have a more storied recent history, the 2013 version of both teams will be like looking into the mirror. Which team will have the advantage in this one-game playoff? Join Jim Pete to see if the numbers separate the teams, or if they just muddy things up.
Although the Indians' expanded roster was able to celebrate a playoff berth after their clinching victory in game 162, the harsh reality is that this journey into October means the end of the road for a number of players. When the team gets to Progressive Field on Wednesday, once again, only 25 players will be in uniform. The IBI's Kevin Dean looks at the possibilities with roster for the wildcard game.
Ladies and gentlemen, may I introduce you to your PLAYOFF-BOUND Cleveland Indians! The Tribe won six games this past week as the team's win streak reached 10 games. As it turns out, the Indians needed every one of those 10 wins as they finished just one game above Texas and Tampa Bay to claim the AL's top Wild Card spot. All attention now turns to Wednesday when the Indians will host the American League Wild Card Playoff Game. Until then though, join the IBI's Steve Orbanek as he takes one look back at the amazing week that was in the latest edition of Notes From the Wigwam.
Join Smoke Signals' Tony Lastoria and Jim Pete as they take on several important topics for the Cleveland Indians as they head to the wildcard game on Wednesday. How good has Ubaldo Jimenez been in 2013? Smoke Signals takes an in depth look at the Indians' new ace, and just how good he's been since he was bumped from his Detroit Tigers' start at the beginning of August? Tune in to our new "podcast," and let us know what you think?
For the first time since 2007, Cleveland, you will have an October to remember! The IBI's Jim Berdysz joins in on the festivities and shares his second thoughts on an epic September and the Indians making the playoffs.

The Cleveland Indians will play past the final day of the regular season. In the last week of the season, manager Terry Francona "demoted" Chris Perez from the role of closer, focusing instead on a "bullpen by committee." While that seemed to answer the Perez questions in close games, what does that mean for Perez and the Indians in the immediate future? Join Jim Pete with this week's IBI Power Poll.
The Indians have had one of the most amazing seasons that has largely gone unnoticed by Cleveland fans. They have proven to be the ultimate team because there is no true superstar carrying them and instead they have enjoyed success this season because of the strength of the roster from 1 through 25. Tony looks at the roster and organization and says the entire group is the MVP this season, and he also looks at the closer situation, all of the possible wildcard scenarios going into the last day, predicts the postseason roster and more.
They started from the bottom now they’re here! The hottest team in all of baseball was at it again Saturday afternoon in Minneapolis, as the Tribe took down the Twins 5-1 to win their ninth straight. With the victory, Cleveland now sits in the driver’s seat up one game in the American League wild card race where they control their own destiny. The IBI's Jim Berdysz shares his second thoughts on the big Tribe win...
The Cleveland Indians surpassed the 90-game win mark on Saturday as they topped the Minnesota Twins 5-1. Scott Kazmir received the start for the Indians, and the lefty tossed six innings of stellar ball as the Indians clinched at least a tie for the wildcard and ensure that their season cannot end on Sunday.
Right now as we prepare for this year's wild card one-and-done games or even one-and-done tiebreaker play in games, it's interesting to note that the Indians are not foreigners to this experience (while most of us may not remember). IBI history guru Rick Lamborn takes us down memory lane to 1948, the last year the Indians won a World Series, and recalls how the Indians had to go to Fenway for a one game playoff to determine the AL pennant and get into the playoffs.
While a team’s number of wins doesn’t necessarily dictate how they’ll fare in the playoffs, it still is a symbol of success, particularly to a ball club that doesn’t see the luxury of 90-plus wins very often. For the Indians, it’s a milestone as they now have reached the 90-win mark for the first time since their last playoff run in 2007. Join the IBI's Jake Dungan as he recaps the Tribe's 12-6 blowout win over the Twins.
