Structural Changes

Postby Bearcatbob » Mon May 26, 2014 4:02 pm

1. We need a 3b who can field the position. Either Chiz shows he can do the job with regular playing time or he has to change positions,

2. If we moved Chiz to the OF who leaves?

3. Sellers looks like a player. If so - could Aviles play 3b full time?

4. Structural changes are needed. What will they be?

Santana 3B
Chiz DH
Swish 1B
Gomes C
Giambi released

Have Chisenhall keep working out at first base. Swisher is looking pretty fragile right now. He injured one knee the other day and then hurt the other one yesterday running out a ground ball.

If Swish can't play, put Chiz at 1st and bring up Aguilar to DH.

Santana is not much of a third baseman, but Chisenhall is a disaster. Both his glove and his arm are extremely unreliable. The discouraging thing is that Chiz was drafted as a shortstop and was moved to third, so he's been an infielder going back to his college and probably high school days. Santana is just getting back to the position after catching for five years, and he's already a better fielder, although not by much.

I find it interesting that the current winning streak has been accomplished without Santana and Swisher. With two weak links taken out of the order - look what happened.

How Santana and Swisher are reintroduced into the lineup will be interesting.

When we were losing we were told that any recovery required Santana and Swisher to become productive. Recent experience shows that to be true.

Team management has some interesting decisions to make.

Don't you mean "recent experience shows that NOT to be true"?

I'd get Lindor up to Cleveland and move Asdrubal to 3rd, Chis to 1st and playing everyday. Santana and Swish share DH until one of them starts hitting. Rangers need a 1st baseman, I'd try to move Swisher to them.
