2014 Minor Leagues Thread

In past years, we would always separate threads team by team. With not a whole lot of chatter going on this year, we'll keep it here unless warranted.

Just seeing that Adam Miller got added to the Akron roster. Any word on his velocity and health? Gotta pull for him to get to the show!

It's been awhile since his injury, but I'm curious as to when Dylan Baker is projected to return to play? I honestly cannot remember what his injury was for the life of me.

My oldest son and I saw Akron play in New Britain, CT last night. Obviously can't tell a lot from one game, but thought you'd enjoy our impressions .
Cody Anderson was very impressive. He worked fast and went right after hitters. Changed speeds well and was ahead in the count for his whole outing. Hit 94 but was generally 90-92 with the fastball. Taken out after 81 pitches.
Adam Miller. What can I say? It was amazing just to see him back out there with us. My son had seen him years ago in Buffalo, when he went against a rehabbing Bartolo Colon and lost 1-0. Unfortunately, he gave up the solo homer last night and was the loser in another 1-0 game. The homer was right down the middle, sadly. Otherwise, Miller was good and touched 94 a couple of times.
Tyler Naquin was very impressive. He made a spectacular diving catch in the LC gap, and made a great throw that nearly caught a runner who strayed too far off 2nd. He had a single and later, off a lefty, hit one to the deepest part of the park that was caught on a great play - probably hit it 395 feet. Struck out twice, one on a questionable checked swing.
Tony Wolters had a tough game. 0-4 at the plate and looked overmatched vs the lefty. At catcher , had a passed ball and had trouble just keeping the pitch in his glove a few times.
Lindor had a hit and steal, but didn't have anything hit his way other than a pop fly , so couldn't comment on the D. Seems like a leader out there though he 'a so young.

Also, the stadium is nice, but the field looked horrendous. We could see numerous ruts and uneven spots all over the playing field. Saw 2 real bad hops on grounders.

From what I've heard, McClure and Mejia will probably start out there.

NaQuin starting to hold up to that pick, he's gotten a bit higher and thus gained power and didn't lose much speed. Might be an improved Brantley (A bit more power. faster, better arm). But then again I never saw it as a miss like a lot of people did, I mean its not like when we totally wiffed on Sale to pick Pomeranz IIRC

I'm going to see Mahoning Valley in Batavia tonight. Any idea if Zimmer, Allen and Eubank are actually with the team? All are listed on the roster, but there are 35 or more players on the roster. Also, none of the 3 played in yesterday's doubleheader. Thanks to anyone who has info.

They should be with the team. Not 100% sure what the timetable is for Zimmer, but he should start playing any day now. Eubank might not for another day or two maybe.

Hey Marty, hopefully you'll read this in time. Zimmer SHOULD be with the team. Eubank and Carter were just "officially" inked today, so I'm not sure they'll be with the team. If they are, they probably won't see any action today.

Just left the MV game, a 7-4 loss. Zimmer and Allen were there but didn't play. No sign of Eubank. Got to see Francisco Mejia, he didn't get a hit but looked impressive behind the plate. Looked very much in charge. Lovegrove started but wasn't sharp. McClure looks like a ball player.

That is welcome and interesting news. Doubt Marcum would be ready for the majors during August but if he is able to contribute in Sept, I would be interested to see what he can bring to the table. Maybe he could solidify the backend of the rotation.

Anyone recall the contract status of Marcum for next year??

Pretty sure Marcum was on a minor league deal with a ST invite. Minor League deals are usually only one year deals.

I went to the Scrappers' game in Batavia last night and had the pleasure of meeting and speaking very briefly with Luke Eubank's dad (and even more briefly with Luke as he and his dad chatted before the game). Both were very nice. I told Luke's dad that people here on this site were hoping Luke would get drafted by the Tribe and that the Indians would get him signed once they did draft him. He said Luke was set to go to Hawaii for college, but really wanted to play pro ball and signed. I told him that this board was glad things turned out like they have.

I also asked about Mejia, as he hadn't played in a couple of days. Luke said Francisco took a foul off his shoulder a few days ago and was just taking it easy for a few days. He then said Mejia is great defensively and has an absolute cannon, then added that Francisco gets better every day and mentioned how young he is. Luke had pitched the bottom of the 9th the night before, also in Batavia, and loaded the bases before escaping without being scored on, getting the save, so I told him to try a 1-2-3 inning next time! His dad laughed and said there always has to be some stress!

Very nice people! Thought you folks would enjoy the story!

Oh, by the way - Zimmer was 3-4 with a homer and 3 RBI's and looked good! Tall, skinny kid, long thin legs - if he fills out a bit, could add more power. And Allen looks good as well, had two more steals. Casey Shane made his first start at this level, had some balls that were hard-hit against him, but gave up only an unearned run in 5 innings. No speed sign in Batavia, so no idea on velocity. And finally, there were around 400 people at the game, and they were so quiet that you could hear the players on the field talking.
