Second tier free agents my ass, we were a contender every year. We had our own CORE players and winning veteran free agents were added as part of the formula AND it WORKED.

So far, positive reports coming from the Francona interview. Fingers crossed.

If for some reason (Im skeptical) the Tribe does actually sign Francona, I'd like to see the Tribe keep Sandy around in some capacity assuming 1. he doesn't want to leave 2. Francona doesn't want him on his staff 3. Another team doesn't hire him. I'd offer him a position as special asst. to the GM or something to KEEP HIS BBALL MIND IN THE ORG.

If Sandy doesn't get the job, he might be a favorite to land the job in Boston.... The bigger question for me is what we decide to do with Sarbaugh. Me personally... I make him first base coach.

Yeah I like Sarbaugh, he's a winner and BBALL guy.

IF they are really serious about Francona, I hope he has some creative influence on trades, FA, roster moves. That would certainly help 1. Get him here 2. Give the Tribe a legit chance to add some talent 3. Build a roster he wants to manage.

On one side of your brain.. it's working by getting close.. on the other side of what's left of the same brain it's not working because they didn't win.. you are conflicted.. Oh.. you were speaking about your ass.. not your brain.. hard to tell the difference when they're so similar...

I have a hard time seeing Sandy in Boston. Not sure it's the best idea hiring a guy who's never managed anywhere to come into that mess. Though then again, thought hiring Valentine was a terrible idea with the group they had so who knows.

I am really hoping Sarbaugh gets on this coaching staff but thought he would last year when Sandy moved from 1B to bench coach. 1B, 3B, or even hitting coach would be good fits for Sarby IMO. Just hope Steve Smith is no longer at 3B.

Absurd, going to first base coaching job would be a demotion.

Getting to the Show would be a huge opportunity for Sarby not just in money but life style (airplane rides in 1st class motels compared to bus rides and Econo lodges). He'd take the Show over managing at AAA again in a heart beat.

I'd agree Sarbaugh do it, but not for those reasons --- although I doubt you were completely serious. Seems more like he truly loves the game.

ha, yeah I don't think any AAA manager would turn down a ML coaching job. Hargrove went from coaching AAA to 1B in the early 90s. Torey Louvollo went from AAA manager to Blue Jays 1st base coach recently. Bobby Cox also started out as a minor league manager before moving on to coach 1B in the bigs (and then obviously to managing the Braves). Many more I can't think of right now too. Also have many who managed in the minors then became 3B coaches, including former Tribe skipper Manny Acta, current Tribe manager Terry Francona, Ron Washington, Buck Showalter, Ron Gardenhire, Ron Roenicke...

Going from a minor league manager to base coach job in the big leagues is anything but a demotion. That's like saying it's a demotion going from a starting 2B in the minors to a utility infielder in the big leagues.

As long as we are talking about guys to join Francona's coaching staff I'd like to throw a name into the ring....Sal Fasano.

Been managing in the Blue Jays system and from the sounds of it doing a nice job. Personally would rather have him on a staff over Sandy (though would take both). That baseball nut that just seems like he'll make a great manager one day. Could actually be a candidate for the Blue Jays job if Farrell were to leave for the Red Sox opening...

Regarding Sandy Alomar, going from bench coach back to first base. Sarbaugh, yes for first or better yet third base.
