Indians offseason moves
Re: Indians offseason moves
Losing DeLaCruz does hurt some. He did have control problems, but young lefties with above average stuff are hard to come by. We do have some depth right now with Perez, Hagadone and Sipp, but after that, there isn't much on the horizon unless some of the lefty starters like Huff, Packer, McFarland, etc are converted to relievers, but none seem to throw as hard as DeLaCruz. Personally, I would have went with one of the position players like Diaz, Neal or Weglarz. I do not see any of them getting claimed right now. If I was going to go with a pitcher, I would go with Hermann. He has had some success at the major league level, and he provides some value as a long reliever, but his stuff isn't much different from your typical journeyman reliever. If he were to be claimed, someone like Chris Ray would be an adequate replacement. If Salazar is throwing as hard as they say, then his rostering makes some sense, but the Diaz rostering is still a head scratcher. If Cabrera were to get injured, and for some reason they didn't go with Donald, I imagine the Indians would likely find a scrap heap replacement before giving the job to Diaz.

With Scott Sizemore going down with a torn ACL, any chance the Indians and A's get together for a trade?..perhaps:
A's get: Jack Hannahan & Frank Supe' Herrmann
Indians get: Michael Taylor & a "C" prospect
or
A's get Jack Hannahan & Matt LaPorta
Indians get: Michael Taylor and Chris Carter
Thoughts?

Why would the A's even bother with either one of those trades?

Well, I don't think the A's are as high on Taylor as you would think. They obviously didn't think he was ready to start this year. If acquired, I'm not sure if he's ready to start for the Indians on opening day. However, the Indians OF depth in the system is putrid.
As far as what you give up, I would hate to give up Hannahan. He's not the future, but he can be important for us this season. We do have bullpen arms that would be attractive in a deal. LaPorta could have his value rise somewhat with a strong ST.
I don't really know what the A's would be interested in, but I'm sure they would listen.

Jack Hannahan on MOST teams is a utility player -- at best. Herrmann doesn't have that much value either, same goes for LaPorta... but, that's my thinking.

Even if the A's were willing to trade for Hannahan, don't see the why the Indians would want to deal their starting 3B for 2 guys that likely start the year in AAA. Do like Taylor more than some, but have my doubts he'd win a job for opening day. Even if you think Chiz will be their opening day at 3B, moving Hanny seems unlikely.

Re: Indians offseason moves
What does any of this have to do with offseason moves? Is this ridiculous made up trade crap going to be the topic on every thread? Keep it where it belongs so I do not waste time reading it, please. I love the Indians and talking about them but some posters just want to turn the whole forum over to this silly stuff. I don't want to be the grinch but I don't read all threads and all posters unless I have time and have already spent too much just writing this.

Andrew.. yes.. On most teams including the Indians Jack Hannahan should be a utility player.. and may be..

Re: Indians offseason moves
I don't think the Indians want to trade Hannahan until Chiz has established himself as a major league hitter and defender, which will hopefully be this season.
Best case scenario is Hannahan has a good first half while Chiz tears it up in Columbus. The Tribe trades Hannahan, Joe Smith or Chris Perez, and Roberto Hernandez to a contender in July for a blue chip prospect. Vinnie takes over as the closer.
With the implementation of two wild card teams this season the chance that the Tribe is a contender increases dramatically, IMO. I'm assuming the Tigers will win the division and the Yankees or Red Sox will get one of the wild card spots. So the Tribe will have to beat out Tampa, the Twins, and whoever finishes behind the Angels in the West.
If the Tribe is in contention they'll be less likely to trade players for prospects like they did with Victor, Lee, CC, DeRo, etc.

That's the 'best case scenario'?.. Chiz in AAA, the Tribe trades Hoover/Smith/CP/BOB in July for a "prospect", Vinnie closes, the Tigers win the division and the Indiansare fighting for the last wild card spot with the caveat that IF they're in contention they're less likely to trade guys? Really? That kind of scenario seems to portend a realistic/pessimistic scenario as opposed to a best case scenario..
How about:
-Chizenhall's worst day in Spring Training is the first of two intra-squad games followed by tearing up the Cactus League and winning the starting assignment at 3B for the 2012 season?
-Hoover/Smith/CP/Bob contribute to the Indians start of the 2012 season as utility/backup 3B/1B, set up/RH Specialist, 19/20 conversions of save opportunities and a work visa for BOB to become the Indians # 4 starter, respectively.
-Vinnie continues to be the primary set up guy for the Indians. Due to the large number of save opportunities and the starting pitching going deep into most games, gets and converts 9/10 save chances>
-Tigers fall on their sword and are firmly ensconced in fourth place behind the Twins and Royals.
-There is no 'if" about contending, so the WC chase is moot as is the idea about trading anyone off the 25 man roster.
Sure.. and the of color of the sky in my world is Wahoo Red white and Blue !!!....
