Interesting roster. I'm a little surprised that Joe Smith & Tony Sipping are not part of the bullpen.
Are you predicting a trade or suggesting one or both will be in cbus????

I think Garland & Ray getting positions will certainly put both Sipp and Smith at risk. I do think there will be a trade (maybe Slowey or Tomlin along with Smith)....In the end, yeah there will be some tough decisions to be made. Sipp is the one that I could see but I can only put 25 on the list. If there is a trade, I see R. Perez going with SIpp stepping in.

I also think there will be a DL by someone and Sipp or Smith being a beneficiary.

I think Chiz will make the team but he will have to earn it.

Like MT, I still think Sipp and Smith may be on the opening day roster but either could be traded. The Indians will likely be balancing the organization with some moves during ST. It looks to me like the Indians are preparing to start the season with defense first in the IF so I suspect Chisenhall will go to Columbus for seasoning. That does not appear to be the case in the OF with Sizemore in CF (unless the training staff work miracles with his defense). That makes me think ground ball pitching which puts Gomez in place of Garland and Wheeler replacing Ray and Slowey. In any case it should be an interesting ST. The Indians lost virtually nothing in the offseason (one utility player and several RPs) and still have trading chips if they need them. None will likely be an impact player or sure thing prospect but it would really be nice to see Akron with some prospect talent in the field and at the plate. :pleasantry:

Garland still has to pass a physical and even if he does, I think he gets an extended spring training and some AAA starts before pitching in Cleveland.

With an all-righty rotation, I could see us with 3 lefties in the pen. I'm not so sure we want to trade R. Perez or Sipp, given Hagadone's inexperience and not much else in way of lefty pen help available.

I don't think Chisenhall makes the opening day roster, unless we trade Hannahan. A six-man bullpen is highly unlikely, imho.

Lineup:
C: Santana
1B: Kotchman
2B: Kipnis
3B: Hannahan
SS: Cabrera
LF: Brantley
CF: Sizemore
RF: Choo
DH: Hafner

Bench:
C: Marson
UT: Donald
1B/OF: Duncan
OF: Cunningham

Rotation:
Masterson, Ubaldo, Lowe, Tomlin, Slowey

Bullpen:
C. Perez, Sipp, Pestano, R. Perez, Smith, Wheeler, Hermann

Not a huge Sipp fan but you really can't trade him right now. Need the extra lefty in the pen, and very easily could go with 3 (Hags). The Tribe loves Smith, has since he was in college. Never say never on a deal but if he's healthy, he's on the opening day roster too.

Spill is the guy I'd rather see as that 25th man, but Cunningham being out of options seems like the more likely guy right now. Slowey....making 7 figures so think he's got the leg up on that 5th spot now.

Like your list and the thinking that goes with it, Hermie. My logic isn't as firm but I think I will still go with Gomez over Slowey for the 5th spot in the rotation and Hagadone over Herrmann for the 7th RP. Both of us are counting on all these guys to be healthy, even the oft injured Sizemore and Hafner. Unfortunately, this lineup is weakest defensively up the middle where it really counts in the MLs. All in all, the starting lineup/rotation and the depth options look better to me than last year. It may be lackluster, as I think you posted, but the offseason moves have likely helped the Indians become a franchise that can compete more successfully in 2012. I read somewhere that the Indians were 21st in injury days lost in 2011 which is quite good. So many fans believe the injuries were the problem but it looks to me like the replacements were a bigger issue. :pleasantry:
