Official 2011 MLB Draft thread
Let's break away from the pre-draft thread with an official thread to talk about the picks (and I guess pre-draft news).

I don't care what Law and others say....I have very good intel they plan to take a risk and go for upside/ceiling with the first pick. THe one caveat with that though is they are selecting #8, so there is a chance that all of their high upside guys they are considering with the #8 pick are gone and they do turn to a college arm. But, even if that happens, they will continue to draft BPA and I hear will really look to be extremely aggressive late in the draft.

Andrew Z. (Struthers, OH): Archie Bradley to Baltimore seems to be gaining some steam. Is there still a chance he lands in Cleveland?
Kevin Goldstein: Still a chance! But yes, that's gaining serious steam.

So what's the line on Burch Smith this year? 3rd round? over/under/push?

Would this be the 3rd year in a row on Burch Smith if they took him? Sorry didn't pay much attention to the draft after the 1st day before last year, now i learned my lesson.

I LOVE this reply..
Andrew Z. (Struthers, OH): If Archie Bradley does land in Baltimore, does Cleveland go safe with a guy like Jed Bradley or do they break trend and draft a guy like Lindor?
Kevin Goldstein: It's a great question. They'll need ownership approval to spend big, so it's hard to say. I'd love Archie there, but would hate Jed.

Yes, the Burch SMith watch is on. Would not be surprised to see him as our #2 pick.

Correct....49th round in 09, 20th round last year. Seems like a yearly tradition now lol

one question, what does everybody think of Purke? i mean he was consensus top pick before this year, has he fallen so far he may be available at #47?

I have him pegged in the 2nd round too...though holding out hope he's there round 3 and they wait and grab someone that falls out of the sandwich round (possibly Purke?).

ha, yeah it's JP not me that has the Burch Smith man crush. I would love to grab him though. Now if Lindor is our 1st pick....

i wouldn't be mad at Lindor at #8, as long as Bradley, Starling, Bauer, Rendon, Hultzen, and Bundy are all gone

mechanics, loss of velocity, and high price means he might not go in the first or second round

keithlaw: Among last-minute rumors ... Seattle might still take Lindor, Royals might now take Starling, Orioles on Jed Bradley.
Then you have...
JonathanMayoB3: Feeling a bit better about Cole-Rendon-Bauer-Hultzen start to the #mlbdraft. Nothing set in stone, but hopeful.

My lil 5 rounder for the Tribe for what it's worth (nothing)
1. Francisco Lindor - SS, HS
2. Burch Smith - RHP, Oklahoma
3. Dante Bichette Jr - 3B/OF, HS
4. Mason Hope - RHP, HS (Archie Bradley's teammate who is legit, with 4 pitches)
5. Jason Coats - OF, TCU

Like it hermie, even though not a Lindor fan. Better than those college pitchers though.
I'd like to get Will Lamb & Jake Cave.

Buster_ESPN By the way: If Arizona takes Bauer at No. 3, there is a chance he will pitch in the big leagues this year.
Now that's interesting.

meh, heard him mentioned there, but then again not a top 100 guy. Could easily see him fall to the late 3rd/early 4th.

Re: Official 2011 MLB Draft thread
Anyone see the HS vid of Manny on the preview show? Kid looked like an athlete.
Two other things:
I like John Hart better than anyone in baseball.
Don Zimmer's head is starting to look like a pumpkin.

One round tonight, including the first round supplemental.
Gotta say when watching that Starling spot on MLB Network, wow, I came away impressed with his athleticism. Sizemore 2.0 but with an arm?

Been compared to Carl Crawford a lot, but Grady may be a better (since he has more pop).

Wow.. I didn't think the M's would have the cajones to pass up Rendon.. but a fine selection with Hultzen.. He's a really good kid, smart and has superior command. Good pick..

I still think we'll end up picking from the group of guys we've discussed all day. Just the same names going to different teams in the top 6.
