Peralta absolutely robbed!!

The Silver Slugger awards have been announced and no suprised Grady won one for the OF.....

However, Jhonny Peralta was NOT the winner at SS for the AL! Derek Jeter was the winner.

Here's Jhonny P's ranks among AL shortstops:

RBI: 86 (1st....Jeter was in 3rd)
Runs: 98 (2nd to Michael Young....Jeter was in 4th)
HR: 23 (1st....Jeter was in 3rd with only 10)
2B: 41 (1st....Jeter was in 6th with 25)
SLG: .480 (1st....Jeter was in 4th at .402)
OPS: .806 (1st....Jeter was 3rd with .763)
BA: .275 (8th...Jeter was 2nd with .299)
(the last 3 being of guys playing 300 or more games at SS...and these are only stats at SS, so Jhonny's 1 game at 3B wasn't included...not that it changes much)

So other than batting average, Jhonny destroyed Jeter's numbers and was by FAR the best hitting SS in the AL this year. This may be a bigger robbery than if Cliff Lee had lost the Cy Young (Cliff Lee lost about 3-4 key stats to Roy Halladay).

I know it's the name recognition of Jeter....but come on, enough is enough....

Jhonny is vastly underrated in this league as both a hitter and fielder (Michael Young is NOT a better defensive SS than Jhonny yet won the GG....not saying JP deserved it but c'mon).

Looking at the stats, Peralta definitely did get screwed. All these awards in baseball are based on name recognition it seems, unless you have a truly amazing season like Lee did.

It is the Yankee syndrome. All sports people want to be popular in NYC and go out of their way to justify the legendary, at least in their minds, Yankee captain. He is a huge defensive liability in a league without a lot of great defensive SSs. The only way he can be justified is for his bat which is great compared to his defense. Thus you have to justify the most expensive SS in baseball. I don't knoiw about Peralta being underrated except by Cleveland fans. Tony and I do not have a lot of personnel disagreements that we cannot resolve but Peralta is one of them. We get close but that's as far as it gets. He is a difficult player to rate but I am with you guys all the way that he should have been the Silver Slugger.
