Oscars....who ya got, what ya think?
Oscar Noms are out.....what do you think?
Personally, 10 movies....really? The BLIND SIDE?!?! wow.....
So made (500) Days of Summer got completely shut out, though like that The Messenger and In the Loop got noms for writing, both were much deserved.
Also glad to see The White Ribbon get a Cinematography nod. Hoping it pulls off the upset, but not sure anything can spot the Avatar juggernaut in the tech categories.
Most interesting category has to be Best Director.
3 man....errr, person race.
Quentin Tarantino (for the overblown Inglourious Basterds)
James Cameron
Kathyrn Bigelow (not Duece Bigelow, lol)
For people who have been living under a rock the last few months......
Bigelow is the favorite and has a shot at being the first woman ever to win Best Director. James Cameron has the highest grossing movie of all-time (though extremely overrated).
Adding fuel to the fire? They were once MARRIED. ha
So who do you think/want to win the big ones?
"The Dude" Lebowski should hopefully be getting his first oscar....

I'm a big movie buff, but I haven't seen any of the nominated pictures. Most of them simply don't appeal to me.
I do hope that Jeff Bridges wins though -- very underrated actor and it would be nice to see him get some recognition (Loved him in The Last Picture Show and Bad Company).

I don't see many movies in the theater anymore...mostly wait till they come to DVD (or I download them
). Only movies I go to see now in the theater are the kids ones really....though did go see Avatar because of the hype and because I love that kind of stuff and thought the movie was awesome.

Compared to last year this was a weak year, but there were plenty of good ones.
The Hurt Locker was better than anything that came out last year.
GREAT year for sci-fi (Avatar, Star Trek, District 9).
Even in a down year, still lots of great films.
If you haven't seen them, I recomend:
The Hurt Locker
Precious
(500) Days of Summer
In the Loop
A Serious Man (been told if you're Jewish it's even better)
A Single Man
Up in the Air
Crazy Heart (want to blow my brains out when I hear country music, but the acting makes up for it)
District 9
The Lovely Bones (some critics hated it, but it was actually well done and some great acting)
Adventureland
The Girlfriend Experience
Away We Go
Public Enemies (if you go in expecting a typical ganster movie you won't like it though)
The Messenger
An Education
Still a solid year for movies....not great, but solid.

HA! District 9 winning Best Picture would make up for every mistake that the Academy has ever made! (Halle Barry and your best actress award, I'm looking at you)

Actually that wasn't too bad compared to most.
Ordinary People was a very underrated movie. Raging Bull though is one of te 25 greatest movies ever made.
I'd rank A Beautiful Mind over Fellowship of the Rings as just as big a blunder.
And let's not even go into Saving Private Ryan....lol

Hey now! No dissing the Cleveland girl
Note to self:
Going topless in a movie prior to Academy Awards = Oscar.
Doing Norbit prior to Academy Award does not

Just watched that a few weeks ago.
Another of Steven Spielberg's works, Band of Brothers ,was incredible as well, and I am eagerly awaiting The Pacific in March/April

Most of the best picture winners are solid yet unspectacular movies. Obviously not all of them, but the majority. I also can't believe Paul Newman didn't win an oscar for his performance in The Hustler.
Let's just say the academy is similar to the BBWAA

Other films that had huge impacts not to win Citizen Kane and Star Wars both should have won, really the academy has some huge blunders of the years
