Big fan of the series. Caught on to it from taking a shot on season 1 on DVD and while I thought it started out slow, the story progressed well and before the end of the season, I had that "what happens next?!" feeling people always talk about.
I had that feeling at the start of season 7 last year, but by the time it was all said and done, I almost didn't care. So far in season 8 I feel about the same as I did at the end of 7. Nothing about it really catches my eye, and while I'm sure he's a nice guy, and actually has done a good job with his character thus far, Freddie Prinze Jr will never catch on like Kiefer Sutherland did with fans, if thats the direction they do in fact take it...at least from the rumors I've heard they might be crazy enough to try it...but at the same time, I think Jack Bauer (who on the shows universe, should be around 60 years old
) should think about finally nailing that Renee Walker chick and retiring.
But I do rather enjoy the idea that Bubba Gump tells Jack Bauer what to do

Re: 24
Yeah, the last 2+ seasons have really been blah. I think the show hit its climax with Season 5 with the whole President Logan thing, which I thought was an awesome season.
I think the reason the show started to lose some of its oomph is because they killed all the major characters. Whacking show stalwarts like Sherry Palmer, David Palmer, Michelle Dessler, etc ruined it if you ask me. Jack may be the main guy, but we all grew to love some of these secondary characters. Even Tony got whacked but was good to see him return last year (and likely later this season). I could care less really about any of the other characters on the show except Jack, though have started to grow to like/care for Renee. Hopefully they don't whack her too.
Curious to see where this season goes. At some point, likely at the half way point as always the bigger threat will be revealed, and I think we will get a continuation of the storyline unveiled at the end of last season with that secret undreground group of people who have been running things. They captured the one guy last year, and Tony as well, so I think that all comes into play later in the year. Oh, and of course you just know Kim was kidnapped somehow.

Yeah they haven't quite put out a season that was great since 4 and 5.
I think the change from LA is good. In a way while it did lose a lot killing some of those longtime characters, I don't think you can continue to put on a show that doesn't get stale with the same people. Perhaps with the move, they can establish new people (like Renee) who become major characters over more than one season and they sort of reinvent themselves to keep it up longer.
This season is sort of moving along rather slowly (I mean really, how many kills does Jack have? Barely any). But I'm sure it will pick up.

The problem I have with the characters being killed off was they litterally killed all of them without really making the show about anyone else. And if they brought in a character, say like Curtis in season 4, by the time he was killed in season 6 you still didn't care about him. You didn't learn about him the same way you did Tony or even Chase, who only stuck around til Jack cut his hand off

A lot of it is the writing, which since Season 5 has been iffy at best. They have failed to develop any characters since really Bill Buchanan in Season 4, who they killed off last year I might add....and it goes back to the writing for me as they have done a piss poor job of making me care about any character since then except for really Renee.
And President Allison is horrible. Whoever came up with that idea should be shot.

Yeah you are right. I don't remember feeling anything for someone killed off since Edgar. That was truly one of the legitimately "heartbreaking" moments that I can remember. The Curtis death was shocking more than anything because I didn't really expect it, but because we really didn't know him, the emotions stopped with shocked.

Looks like a light may be finally showing at the end of the tunnel as things will change next week, possibly to the "big plot change" as it happens every year at the midpoint of the season. Thank God. This President Hassan storyline as well as the Dana Walsh, Cole, and hilljack ex-boyfiend storyline have been brutal to suffer through the past 4-5 weeks.

Re: 24
I dunno...this whole season has been a mess IMO. Bubba Gump as Jacks boss doing his best to be George Mason/Ryan Chappelle. Cherry Jones as President Taylor is just awful awful awful. Freddie Prinze, Jr. actually doesn't bother me but aside from a few bits of action here and there, his character is about as interesting as Curtis Manning instead of Chase Edmunds...
I do my absolute best not to compare characters, but the characters are never different or interesting. The style of killing everyone off of the show in order to keep you on your toes has effectively killed off my desire to connect with any characters when I know that they're only there to die or have Jack cut their hands off to save the day (sorry Chase).
I know actors want to leave, do other things, or the producers want to make changes and lots of factors play into who stays on and who goes, but it's almost like no character ourside of Jack, Kim, and Chloe are safe because the writers are instructed to eliminate the need of the actor before they have to renegotiate their contracts.

Man, I love this show and no matter what will see it through until the end of the series.
But it appears they have officially run out of ideas. Last week we had CTU attack #1745 and this week CTU mole #254 was revealed. Good Lord.
That said, I am not terribly upset with Dana Walsh being revealed as a mole. I can't stand her and this she is unwatchable both with her acting and looks.

That wont be a problem, as it was announced yesterday that this will be the final season. The final episode will air on May 24 (pretty cool huh?) as a 2 hour series finale.

Re: 24
Yeah, had been rumored for a few weeks that the show is ending.
As disappointing as the season has been, I'm sad to see it end. Felt they should have gone one more season at least in order to truly wrap it up rather than now likely leave it open as production just finished earlier in the week with taping of the final episodes so I have heard. With the end of last season and exposing one of the "conspiracy group" people, I wanted to see that storyline which has been a part of I think four seasons now climax and come to an end....also the whole Tony thing (he won't be on this year).
Really don't understand this season so far as it has almost no ties to last season. All the stuff with the Prez daughter and the husband hating her (this may still come into play), and the conspiracy group stuff. Maybe they save the "wrapup" for the movie which now looks like it will be a go.

Re: 24
I agree with your sentiments Tony...
I've been a staunch supporter of the series as people have bashed it the past few years. It wasn't until this season where I felt things getting stale (I mean the EMP attack on CTU was different, but I was disappointed they decided to have yet another mole, it gets old) so I think that the series has started to run its course.
Would have liked to see one more season for the reasons you stated. I would rather have that than a two hour movie (Kiefer made it sound like this was almost a definite thing that would happen) but as long as we get a proper ending, movie or tv, it matters none to me.

Re: 24
Now we are getting somewhere. MUCH better episode tonight. Maybe it is because the Dana storlyine and Hassan storylines are now done, but I felt tonight aside from the car switch in the parking lot was so much less predictable. Actually some suspense for once because I also had a feeling Renee was going to bite it.
Will be interesting to see how Logan fits into all of this and where the story goes from here these final 8 episodes. I am hoping that the show now goes in the direction of the underground conspiracy group behind most of the attacks from the past few seasons which we finally got a hint about at the end of last season (likely).

I think that underground group will resurface here towards the end. I remember hearing Will Patton (the guy who played Alan Wilson, the head of the group) is making a return.
Can't wait to have Logan back. He was one of the greatest characters the show has ever produced. I can't remember ever hating someone as much as I hated President Logan, haha.
But yeah Monday's episode was fantastic. Much needed.

Re: 24
Wow, lots of action tonight and boy has Jack lost it. Reminds me somewhat of a Road to Perdition angle, a movie I just saw again for the first time in awhile while I was laid up on Sunday. Like Tom Hanks' character in the movie Mike Sullivan, he spares no life for those responsible for the murder of his wife and youngest son, including taking out the mob boss and his son. Will Jack really go so far as to kill the Russian Premier? I don't think so, and I don't think he dies in the finale as there would be no way to do a movie unless they did a "prequel" or something.
There may be a lot of plot holes these past few hours, but boy have the last 4-5 hours been infinitely better than the first 16 hours!

Yeah it's been great for the past few weeks and next week's finale is probably going to be awesome as well. I love seeing Jack just go on one last killing spree before the series ends. And he is taking no prisoners either, it's awesome.
