Netflix and alternatives?

Postby Hermie13 » Mon Sep 26, 2011 12:35 pm

I know there was some mention of people using Netflix on some of the topic here. Just curious what others think of the price hikes and the split coming with a new Qwikster service that you'll have to get if you still want DVDs in the mail.

Personally trying to find some alternatives. I know Hulu Plus is out there for streaming as is Amazon Prime. Anyone have any opinions on these or any others?

Debating about switching to blockbuster too for in-mail service. Anyone have any dealings with them since the Bankruptcy?

Dumping Netflix as well here before the end of the month. The streaming really sucks if you ask me. If was cool at first....but it is hardly ever updated and very few new titles are available. The 1 DVD by mail option was always great for $2 a month to fix that need. No more.

I smell a disaster coming for Netflix. Massive cancellations. I know it is only about a $8-9 increase....but it practically doubled. And the split into two entities is a bit much if you ask me. I wouldn't want stock in them right now, that's for sure.

If Blockbuster is smart, they capitalize on this.

Last i checked stock was down to 180 from 340 in july I believe, it gets worse as they are losing there deals with starzz and other channels that provide most of the decent material. I am looking into a few options. Amazon is the leader for me right now

I agree that the streaming needed better updates. Sad thing is, from what I've seen it still was the best. I am an Amazon Prime member (buy enough stuff that the free shipping made it worth it)...and while there's is expanding, still not up to par with Netflix as far as movies IMO. Plus, I have a PS3 and it's very convienent to stream Netflix thru it. Amazon doesn't allow this at the present time. I'm stuck with either streaming it thru my computer or trying playon (which costs money to get), which I'm not a fan of.

Hopefully they close the gap because I'm with you, bout ready to dump Netflix (partially just on principle).

Blockbuster does have a $9.99 1 DVD deal going. Includes Blu-ray and video games (Netflix's basic plan has neither). I had them for a 2-week trial about 2 years ago and they were terrible. Mailed a movie back and took 4 days before they "got it". Hopefully they've improved though.
