Battlestar Galactica

Anyone here by chance watch this show? The new one with Edward James Olmos as Odama?

With such a small community here and the small following the show had, probably not.....but good Lord what a great show. Just finished watching all four seasons in two and a half weeks because I have been stuck home and came away "fraking" stunned at how good of a show it was. Damn writers strike killed the show as to me it easily could have gone another season or two as the final season was a little rushed to finish.

I'm hardly a Sci-Fi guy either. While I love sci-fi movies I have never watched the Sci-Fi channel. Maybe I should start.....I know I am gonna check out that new show on TNT next month "Falling Skies".

Was the best show on TV for the first 3 seasons. Season 4 got a lil weird....but I personally thought it had one of the best series endings in recent memory (aka, it didn't totally suck lol). Was a top 10 show on TV according AFI (which you will probably never see out of a Sci-Fi/SyFy channel show again). Not just a great Sci-Fi show (as you mentioned) but a GREAT show overall. Get the Blu-ray....you will not be disappointed.

Definitely sucked that it ended so soon....though the writers also were afraid of things getting taken away from them and the show being boring if dragged out too long.

There is a new Battlestar series coming out that may peak your interest (Caprica was pretty disappointing): Battlestar Galatica: Blood and Chrome. It's going to take place during the first Cylon War and star a young Commander Adama (Edward James Olmos).

A show that some will probably laugh at but was actually very good as well was the short-lived Stargate Universe. While the first 2 were just fun/corky style...the 3rd (and probably best) had a lot of BSG in it. Not to mention it had Robert Caryle, which automatically increases it's awesomeness by a factor of 10 :drinks:

Just some of the best acting, writing, and drama on TV that I have ever seen. I thought Olmos was great as Bill Odama, and Callis as Baltar was sensational. THe way they handled Baltar was amazing with the split personality thing talking to his conscience/angel and going from the self-preserving jerkoff who I wanted to be flushed out an air lock the first two seasons to a guy who in the end turned out to not be so much of an a-hole after all. Sackoff as Starbuck was tough for me to get into after watching her character on "24" last year who I absolutely hated, but I eventually warmed to her. Just a great job with the cast, and great job with developing the characters. Only show to do this so well recently was "Lost". In the end I found myself emotionally tied to almost all of them which is a testament to the writing/acting to get us close to them and feel for them.

I think the best episode was the two-parter in Season 4 when Zarek and Gaues (sp) start the revolution and take over the ship and fleet. Compelling, intense stuff there those two episodes.

I agree, with you totally. I could not imagine waiting a week between those 2 episodes, those were the highlight of the show to me, and in terms of just tension I am not sure I have seen a better written TV episode ever. I really enjoyed the show in general, I think its like why I like zombie stuff, the idea of survival I find very compelling TV. This and Friday night lights were the two shows that I did enjoy that the writers strike really hurt to me. Still one heck of a show and the shame of it to me was for all its greatness it never got one Emmy bid ever, showing what a load the Emmeys are.

I really enjoyed the series but loved how they a) weaved in the Pegasus story line & b) brought back Richard Hatch (the original Apollo). He had been trying to revive the story for years.

Loved the angle with the Pegasus as it showed how different groups would approach similar situations in radically different ways

BSG - herd survivors together, move on
Peg - strip the supplies of others taking what you need and abandon them to whatever fate. Look out only for yourself while getting revenge.

BSG - find a cylon, get info, space if needed/ find out how a childbirth will turn out
Peg - find a cylon, get info, let everyone get their rocks off and get back in line for another turn with her/it

Hopefully most of you saw this but BSG Blood & Chrome is finally getting a release. It'll begin airing tomorrow on the Machinima youtube channel. Only being released in 10 minute or so episodes for now. You can wait til sometime in early 2013 if you want to see it as a 2 hour movie on SyFy, but c'mon, who wants to wait that long for BSG?!?!

Here's the "official" trailer (a fan made one leaked months ago):

That will be the youtube channel the show will air on.
