Fantasy Baseball
I know it would be a huge undertaking and possibly impossible due to trademarks, copyrights blah blah blah, BUT it would be great if for next year you could set up a fantasy league with just the minor league players. An initial draft, and then a flood of free agents as the AZL and the Scrapper teams start playing it would be a blast and a good way for some of these guys to put there money where ther mouth is.. Myself included.

Re: Fantasy Baseball
Oh geeze, that might kill me.
Seriously though, I like the idea. While I would not participate, I think it is a good idea and would be fun for those who like to follow prospects. If only 6-8 guys did it, we could even just limit it to the Indians prospects.

The real question would be who is going to keep track of those numbers? You'd have to limit the moves that someone could make...like 2 a month or something.

Assign a few people to specifically do stats?

Yikes! That would be an enormous undertaking.
Here's another idea...start a keeper league where there is a deep minor league roster. I run a league with a 20-man minor league roster, and its a lot of fun. We had a trade that went Chase Utley for Andrew McCutcheon, Cahill and Michael Brantley the other day. Its fun to see those vets for prospects swaps when a team decides they are out of it, just like real life.

If we can't put together a minor league type league, would you be interested in joining a major league one via Yahoo?

I'd be interested in a MLB fantasy league, though I played in an ESPN league last year and I probably liked it better than Yahoo. An auction draft is a lot of fun btw.

The auction league I was in last year wasn't renewed, so I'd love to get into one this year if there's interest in that.

I'll gladly create a league if there's enough interest, people give their availability to set up a draft time, and agree upon league settings.

Evenings/Nights are best for me. As far as a day, as long as we know in time I can plan around it.
I will roll with whatever settings people want. I would second JP's opinion about auction leagues. Most challenging league I had last year.

Re: Fantasy Baseball
For now, I set up a Yahoo Auction league, set for this coming Thursday at 9 PM EST. I can easily change draft time/date.
Input on the day and time, as well as the settings will be appreciated.

Wednesday would be better for me (I work on thursday and friday till 1 AM).
As far as settings go, I'm for using more or different stats than the usual fantasy stuff (AVG, HR, SB -- W, L, SO). Obviously some of them should still be in, but perhaps it's fun to also incorporate OBP, OPS, IP, WHIP, or even some more advanced stats if Yahoo lets you. This way more players will have value in the league.
Anybody else who likes the idea?

Wednesday works better for me also, so let's see what everyone else says.
What would you suggest for total salary amount? Default is $260. I find that a bit low. Let me see what settings Yahoo will allow and I will update this post.

I can't remember the budget we used last year. All I know is that it's a lot of fun and there are some bargains to be had if you are disciplined enough.

Re: Fantasy Baseball
I used ESPN last year and their default budget was 260, so I think that is fine. It depends on how many teams you have. I didn't even come close to my budget and ended up winning. Some teams spent a large portion of their allotment on a few players early and ended up having to fill their team later when the players were cheaper. That was their strategy, but I felt 260 was fine.
I agree with JP in terms of stats. Obviously the basics, but stuff like OBP, K/9 make it more strategic.
Wednesday is fine with me, will we be able to fill the league by then though?

Right now, I think 4 are in. Obviously we need more, but we don't need 12. I think we can find more teams by Wednesday.

I deleted the league - for now. But, we need participants. If someone wants to start a post on the regular board and see how much interest we get, then I'll still be glad to create one and work around everyone's time.

yeah, I think that's the best way to do it. If we can get about 10 people who'd like to join in, then we should be good to go.
Perhaps we can also make some sort of poll about the settings such as draft type or maybe creating a dynasty/keeper league.

Agreed, but there are still a couple of weeks left..... I would really like to join a league though even if it with just a few people from the site, I don't have any friends that play fantasy baseball and would like to be in a league where I sort of know people.

Re: Fantasy Baseball
It doesn't seem like a league is going to take place with posters. With that being said, I am in a fantasy league and I respect the viewpoints of people on this site, and ask everyone the following: What players in the MLB do people see having big years or breakout years (outside the obvious Pujols, Utley, ect)? Who do people think may be sleepers this season?

I haven't really looked into it yet, but Ricky Nolasco is one that comes to mind.

Nah, I like Josh Johnson a whole lot better.
Watch out for Andrew McCutchen.

Well, neither of them qualify as sleepers. Johnson was a cy young candidate last year and McCutchen was one of the top rookies.
