Haha!

Lewis was able to get by on the fastball alone first time through.....second time through the Jays adjusted and Lewis was just never able to mix in the off-speed for strikes effectively.

He pitched better than his numbers will indicate - the Lind HR was a pretty good pitch - but, now's the time to see if this re-made bullpen can do what we thought it'd be able to...... win us some games!

At least he waited a few more innings than the other three pitchers before he started giving up runs.

Lewis has been placed on the DL with an elbow strain..... Chulk called up.

They might just slide Jackson into the starting role.

Good call daz. I was thinking Huff on the 14th or 15th rather than finessing a short start for Laffey or Sowers but you make sense with Jackson. Allows us to postpone the move until later depending on how bad Lewis is.

Laffey pulled after 60 pitches... either an indicator that he'll get the call to start on Wednesday or more of a reflection that he gave up 5 runs in 3.1IP??

Let's hope for a trade involving Laffey so we can use his spot on the 40! He is just not ML material right now and I question if he will ever be again, even with his youth.

Seeing as Wedge is still "unsure" about what they are going to do, then it makes me think it's less likely that it's going to be Laffey.

If I had to speculate, the only reason they would be using the "don't know yet" angle would be if they were planning on going to Jackson to slide into the rotation, but don't want to nail it down in case they need a long reliever before Wednesdays game.

If they are forced to use Jackson in a game between now and Weds, then they've set Laffey up as an option by only having him throw 60 pitches yesterday.

Should the fact that Kirk Saarloos didn't pitch last night be telling us something?

Saarloos is an awful option, I'd go with something else. Only way I see Saarloos is as a long reliever if Jackson is the fill in starter.

Thank god.. I didn't think they'd really do that, but him not pitching got me worried.

Sowers is pitching tonight for Columbus.

Starting to look more like they just go with Jackson for a spot start.

If it's Jackson .... they may as well write-off Sowers and Laffey. Why not show confidence in your prospects versus throwing up Jackson. No one had a great spring training. Yet, at least Laffey has a potential future unless you mess with his psyche more. And, if Sowers supposedly pitched decent in ST, why not give him one last shot versus banishing him to the minors over a throw-in in Jackson (who stunk in ST like everyone else). Sounds like another Phillips move ... go with the sub instead of giving someone with potential a shot (over-dramatic I know).

Yet, I am holding out hope for Laffey on short rest ... even though he gave up 5 runs in 3 innings in his AAA start

I guess the only thing that this may hint at is that Lewis is expected to miss just one or 2 starts with the off day on the 20th -- skipping him... and a possible rainout somewhere between now and then pushing up Lee one more slot.

Yet, with a taxed bullpen ... how does Jackson make sense when has has only been streched to 4 innings? Unless you do a Jackson/Chulk combo and hope you starters pitch longer than they have ... including the one inning from Pavano who pitches the day before the Wed. spot start ....

Yeah weird how this worked out. They listed Sowers as the starter on STO Sunday....now they're saying it's Laffey. I'm glad it's not Jackson, but was hoping Sowers did get the call. He finished the strongest in ST (of the younger lefties).

As long as Shoppach doesn't ever catch Sowers again, I think he'll do alright at the ML level, lol.
