Mujica to Padres

It was announced this morning that the Padres acquired Ed Mujica. No word on what the return is for the Indians.

hmm.....interesting. They cut Ryu.....but wanted Mujica.....

I'm actually a bit disappointed to see Mujica go....but you knew it was coming. Just didn't perform at all the last 2 years or this spring. Looks like he could follow Fernando Cabrera's career path here...

Does leave an open 40-man roster spot now for someone.......Chulk soon perhaps?

Hadn't thought of it in those terms, but now that you mention it the pair of transactions is rather odd. Thought he came from Tampa though...

If you consider this note form Castovince

And here's an interesting twist. Right-hander Jae Kuk Ryu is going back to the Padres, less than a week after the Indians claimed him off waivers. That waiver claim was voided by Major League Baseball. Not sure what that's all about, but I'll look into it.

now the open spots on the 40-man roster are 2.....interesting.

No, Salas came from TB. Ryu was from San Diego.

wow....that's weird that Ryu is going back....

Maybe the Tribe is serious about getting one of Hammel or Niemann?

Think about it

Mujica to SD
Ryu waiver claim from SD voided

maybe they're trading Mujica to SD to get Ryu back

You're saying the Indians are looking to trade for a player that they've had a waiver claim revoked on? That doesn't make sense.... the Ryu waiver claimed would only have been revoked by MLB if he was damaged goods and therefore it would've likely been at the Indians request.

Sorry, I thought it was revoked by MLB because of some paperwork irregularity in the Tribe's part.

Pretty funny set of transactions here.

Not sure why Ryu is being sent back, maybe that was our payment to make them pay for Mujica this season.

Interesting. I can't believe the two are unrelated, especially with Ryu going back. But stranger things have happened.

By reports we promised herges and Mujica to try and trade them if they didnt make the team, and if we get only cash its still better then waiving him for nothing

Reports are saying Ryu went back because he didn't pass the Indians physical when he reported to camp.

From the PD,

Don't forget him: After claiming right-hander Jae Kuk Ryu on waivers from the Padres on March 26, the Indians sent him back to the Padres on Wednesday. MLB voided the waiver claim because Ryu didn't pass his physical with the Indians.

Ryu had surgery on his right elbow last year.

I agree about Mujica. Kind of sad to think about....but we just got more for Mujica than we did for Guthrie.... :s_sad

As far as Herges.....I kind of figured the Tribe would just cut him if he didn't make the 25-man out of camp (at least at the onset of spring training). He turned 39 yesterday......can we even get cash for a guy like that? Not like he totally lit it up during camp....
