Borowski retires

Postby Hermie13 » Wed Feb 25, 2009 4:23 pm

Joe Borowski announced he's officially retiring this winter. Not a huge shocker considering the year he had and stuff (he had a pretty funny quote about that actually).

I know most fans absolutely hated him......but he did do his job in 2007 and without him, we probably don't make the playoffs. There were better guys in that pen....but who knows if any would have faired better in the bullpen. We saw Betancourt struggle mightily in 2008 in that role.....same could have happened in 2007 (or not, you'll never know). Perez and Lewis were both rookies at the time....could they have handled all that pressure as rookies? eh, maybe....or maybe not.

Bottom line, for the money JoeBo gave us innings and 45 saves.....plus didn't blow any in the playoffs (though tried to in game 4 of the ALDS). The option was a bad idea.....but all around a good add by Shapiro.

Good luck to JoeBo in his future ventures. Can't say he'll be missed.....but he should be appreciated more than he was....
