Cleveland sportstalkers get info wrong often

Postby timdav » Sun Jul 14, 2013 11:07 am

Whenever I hear sportstalk hosts on 923TheFan and WKNR mention the Ubaldo trade with the Rockies, they mention Pomeranz & White are now starting with the Rockies.

That is not correct. Pomeranz has bounced back and forth between AAA & Denver.

However, Alex White was traded by the Rockies to the Houston Astros on December 4, 2012. And, since, he's had Tommy John surgery and is out for the 2013 season.

Yeah, it's just one trade, but it's the Tribe's biggest trade in a few seasons, and is the most-frequent trade these sportstalkers mention...the 923 & 850 guys bring it up almost daily, and get White's status wrong.

Why do we fans know it, but the guys we listen to for their expertise haven't a clue?

It helps their personal agenda. 92.3 isn't quite as bad about it, but WKNR shows are pretty much all trying to be the "Bob & Tom Show" version of sports talk radio morning shows. Aaron Goldhammer is one of the worst hosts on radio by far. Not to mention anytime Tony Grossi is on the air it' becomes "circle jerk on a browns helmet" show.

Once you get past "Kiley & Booms" on 92.3 the rest of the station isn't nearly as bad as ESPN 850.

A little different but since they're technically Cleveland media, the site Waiting for Next Year has a pretty good podcast for free. Might get between 2-4 shows per week usually about an hour long. Generally they have some strong opinion regarding the Cleveland radio scene (when it's the topic).

Just a quick note.. Went to visit friends in Akron earlier today..and picked up their copy of the Akron Beacon Urinal. Opened the sports page.. and was greeted with hopeful stories about how the Browns aren't going to rely on a QB as the focus of the sixth new offense installed in the last 13 years, this one a Norv Turner offense (A wrong direction). Another story discussed how Mike Brown is going to be a difference maker now that he's with the Cavs for a second time.. There was an article about some guys a one position for the Browns, showing their strength and depth.. There was one story proclaiming the Indians loss to the Twins being caused by errors. The next page was a sports / editorial by Sheldon "Seldom Right" Ocker.. and Seldom Right Ocker was bemoaning the Indians attendance & it's effect on the team..

It should be noted, I didn't and wouldn't buy this rag to cover the bottom of a bird cage.. but, it was there.. and well.. the story giving the reasons for the loss of attention.. were enumerated.. Seldom provided no reasons that were of a foundation that could be considered factual.. It dawned on me at that point.. AH HA!.. Seldom Right was discussing the loss of interest..

WELL I HAVE TO GIVE SELDOM HIS DUE.. HE'S AN EXPERT and HAS PROOF OF HOW TO REDUCE INTEREST. THE AKRON BEACON URINAL HAS SHOWN THE WORLD HOW TO LOSE 1/3 OF THEIR ENTIRE AUDIENCE OVER THE LAST TEN YEARS.. IT'S EASY.. HAVE IDIOTS CREATE THE PRODUCT YOU'RE TRYING TO SELL..

187K Sunday Circulation average in 2003 123K Sunday Circulation in 2013. This after tis BRILLIANT IDEA WAS TRIED: Lower the price of the Sunday Paper.. It didn't work.. But, it did provide proof positive that Seldom is onto something. Good Going Seldom!!! At the current rate, the Akron Beacon Urinal will be insolvent by the end of the 2015 baseball season..
