I like it too. Never pitched well in the AL though save for a short stint with Boston in 2000. but he can eat up some innings and be a guy to spot start in an emergency.

And I was really hoping the Indians would field a pitching staff in AAA comprised only of guys that have developed in the Indians system (Yes for once there is enough), but it is good to have some vet experience there I suppose although I would have rather seen the Indians sign back Halama for that.

With Jose Rodriguez and Greg Aquino also signed to minor league deals and likely to be part of the AAA bullpen, some young arms may be squeezed out. perhaps they are backfilling for some potential trades involving some of their young arms in the bully in the upper levels.

Huff
Scott Lewis
Herrmann (could be lost to rule 5)
Dixon
Edell
Laffey & Sowers (both depend on what happens at the Indians level, I think at least one starts in Columbus)
Lofgren, prob not, but maybe he has a good spring training
Also I think if Adam Miller is in AAA for most of the year, I expect they give him a start every once in a while to give him more innings because being just a relief pitcher he may only increase his IP total to 70 if that. If the Indians want him to be a starter in 2010, he will need to get more IP in 2009, so he starts every once in a while and goes 4 innings or so.

I think its lewis, Hermann, Edell/dixon, Sowers or Laffey then Okie
Huff I think makes the team and if he doesnt then I expect laffey and sowers to. Lofgren will not be in AAA even if he is spectacular, because after last year they wont want to push him too hard at the start. I think they keep Miller in the pen the whole year because I think he ends up in Cleveland by July and I would not be shocked to see them keep Edell in AA. At worst Okie is rule 5 insurance

dynamite drop-in Word.
I really don't think the Indians are counting on Miller to be a starter in 2010 at the ML level. If he has a good year in the pen I bet he stays there (much like Perez who was a starter). He'll likely dump his changeup he's been working on and just focus on that fastball/slider combo. Could turn into the next Mariano Rivera or Papelbon.

Re: Inked Tomo Ohka
Reason I used Rivera was because he was a starter in the minors but had some injury issues. Then used as a setup man for Wetteland before becoming the closer in 1996. Could see Miller being a setup man this year then taking over the closer's role in 2010.....
I don't think Papelbon ever had a major arm injury (though could be wrong). Boston didn't move him to the rotation (htough they almost did) because of need. They had others that could start, and needed a closer more.

I just meant in terms of stuff comp, as Rivera made it with the plus plus plus cutter and plus plus control
