Wow, not only does JRod get knocked out of Cbus, he gets beat out by Phelps? Seems like a mighty big fall to me.
How much OF time do you all see McBride getting in rotation? Guess it'll also depend on how Fedroff and Drennan do to some extent too.
Do you think Goedert's strong spring earns him more playing time than otherwise would have been expected?
10 RP for what, 7 spots? How does that work? Should be interesting to see all that shakes out.
I'm also (among others) interested to see how CC Lee does at this level.

This team should be solid. May contend for another championship. I think Lee will do fine at Akron. He was impressive in Kinston last year. For a smaller guy, he has a good arm. He touches 93-94 most nights with a pretty good little slider.

I think you will see J-Rod play a lot, but all over the place. I think they are going to start looking at him in a super utility role.

Indians have Edell in Akron rotation apparantely, and not Graham. They may just be piggybacking.

Isn't this Edell's 3rd stint in the Akron rotation? Seems like he's been boucning between the AAA pen and the AA rotation for a while now...

When you need AAAA guys at AAA in case one of your AAAA guys on the ML roster get hurt you tend to push guys back to AA for extended periods of time.

Looking at the final stats Goedert had a huge ST with his back against the wall, power and everything, really even better than Kipnis, but it looks like he'll be up against it trying to get much playing time in Akron with the starting spots locked up and Rodriguez seemingly ahead of him as utility INF - at least the first part of the season, but things might open up during the year, it seems like there may be a lot of fluidity with Clippers maybe winding up in Cleveland at mid season or so and the resulting musical chairs.

Eric Berger is not in the current Akron five man rotation. I am checking into why, though likely he is dinged up.

There is still some uncertainty with his status, but it looks like at least for the short term he will open with Akron. But if I were the Indians I would hold onto him considering the lack of catching depth after Marson/Santana/Redmond. Returning to Akron will suck, but at least he gets to play everyday.

I agree about the depth thing completely.....though guess in an emergency Gimenez could step in (would have to be a bad emergency though).
I remember saying (semi-jokingly) that we should send Marte to AA last year when he cleared waivers (could have started at 3B there or DH) to get at-bats.....makes sense with Toregas. I still think with 3 catchers at AAA (Santana, Gimenez, Toregas) you could have gotten away with him DHing some to get at-bats and playing catcher once a week....but o well.

Well the last time they sent Toregas to AA he tore it up. Hopefully he will do it again and re-establish himself as a player the tribe wants to keep.

They have a new scoreboard interface, so maybe it is just not "turned on" to where you can click on the live box score and game recap.

Aeros box now up on milb.com
It appears they're delayed in the middle of the 5th leading 7-2.
2-run HR for McBride and 2-run double for Chisenhall.

As it is now, you have to click the "Scoreboard" tab at the top of the page on milb.com and navigate to the league you want to get to the box score (unless it has a gamecast like the Clippers did). Kind of annoying to have to go through two extra steps, so hopefully they update to live box scores like they did last season.

Akron wins tonight 5-1 to run their record to 4-1 on the year. Edell goes 4 shutout innings followed by Stiller's 3 innings allowing the only run. Grening and Wagner closed out.
Goedert goes 2-3 he's hitting .571 early....Phelps 2-4 .438. Weglarz 2-3, .444, Chisenhall hitless in five trips but still at .381. So far so good for the Aeros.

In Omar Aguilar's second outing, he *only* allowed one run in 2/3's of an inning, so he lowered his ERA to 19.29. He once again allowed more runners to reach base than he could retire and threw three wild pitches, but I'm sure they were all faster than Chuck Lofgren can throw a wild pitch, so it's all good.

FYI, the reason Mills missed a few games is he was sick with a stomach virus that is going around the Akron clubhouse.

Really, really like Barnes. I was thrilled when the Tribe got him from the Giants.
I think his ceiling is mid-level starter, something like 2004-2006 Westbrook levels.
Folks really shouldn't be surprised if he is in the rotation within two years. Barring injury, I think he'll put together a decent career.

Yep, Barnes is held with high regard inside and outside the org. Many people think he is gonna be an innings eating left-handed starter, or sort of a Westbrook Left kind of guy as you mention Art. At least we all hope.

Glad to hear Barnes is so highly thought of. This guy was the 3rd best starter (9th overall prospect) in the Giants system last year and the 2 pitchers he was behind were MadBum and Alderson. He kind of got lost in the prospect shuffle between 12-25 here in Cleveland, but he'd be a top 10 in several systems. Guy only got better last year and looks to showing no signs of slowing down in the early going again.

Yes... although I'm not looking forward to the part where I have to head directly to work after the game. I'll probably skip the weekend, but be back for Dollar Dog Monday. I'm used to the 40-50° rainy opening nights... it's going to be hard adjusting to this perfect weather.

Re: Official 2010 Akron Aeros Thread
Quick question. Did anybody who was there try to score the game? And if so, did you have a rough go of it? Four things went wrong that in isolation would have been no big deal, but combined to make keeping a scorecard near impossible:
- lineup not posted behind plate until after first pitch (this was really the worst of it)
- lineup announced at auctioneer pace by PA guy (sounds like they have a new guy, so I'll cut him some slack, but even those not keeping score might like to know who's playing)
- visiting pitching change not announced
- no numbers on roster sheet (really the least of the problems by far, posted lineups and better announcing would have negated this issue)
On the baseball end of things I wasn't terribly impressed with Graham. He appeared to walking the proverbial tightrope, poorly, all night and I wasn't particularly surprised when he "fell off." Normally, I'd just chalk this up to a bad outing, except that he actually improved his era by 2.89 with that outing. Hibbard really needs to work with Graham on his control (or lack thereof).

Re: Official 2010 Akron Aeros Thread
I didn't try keeping score, I was just taking notes... from my recollection, I don't even remember seeing a lineup, I had to go off the one I have in my head and the roster I had with me. And yeah they didn't announce the pitching changes. I don't even know if they announced the starting pitcher, I had to look him up on my phone. I did get there right as first pitch was being thrown though.
That was something that irritated me. Standing in line for my ticket. Wow that was incredibly slow. They had three windows open but it was taking forever. Then there was actually a line going into the park because they only had one person scanning. I was running later than I wanted to, but 15 minutes before 7 and I don't get in til 5 after? Irritating.
Anyway yeah Graham looked shaky at times, and at other times really good. I believe he threw nine straight balls to open up the game (also a wild pitch). Loved the way he got out of it, but obviously hit that wall after the fifth inning.
Weglarz's HR was a bomb.
I was going to go again tonight with some friends, but the early rain threats scared us off. Looks like they got the game underway but it's been thundering here so who knows if they'll get it all in. Might go tomorrow now since I didn't tonight if the weather is good.

From what I am hearing Weglarz should be back in there on Monday night. Unsure why he has missed the last three games, though I hate to guess I think he was sick or something else non-baseball related came up. I may have more clarification once I talk to the front office late Mondat morning about it as well as lots of other things.

Likely heading to the game tonight... not sure I really want to sit through the cold, but since it was warm on opening night for once, it feels like I should make up for it with some suffering at some point. Probably just taking the camera instead of the score sheet to avoid frozen fingers. Besides, who could pass up the last chance to see Breeze Branyan before he gets the call?

- The lineup was posted in the 5th inning or so (with a nearly used-up marker, you had to get within a foot of the board to make anything out)
- It was 10 balls to start the game.

Ouch Barnes had a rough one 4IP 6H 3BB 5ER then Aguilar had a worse one. Lofgren with 2.84 ERA 12.2IP 10K 2BB.
Not saying they should have kept Lofgren but he is looking like he would have been the most major league ready starter at Cbus.
